I’m no recruiting expert but I saw the highly rated QB commit from Madison Central in Madison, MS has decommitted from Tech.

He was the top rated guy in our class, has a few power 5 offers. I am sure he saw where a couple of our best players are leaving with a large group of depth players. Bottom line is if he doesn’t want to be part of our rebuilding process best to never come in the first place. This is going to be tough, only the resilient need to apply.
All Cumbie needs to do is pick up 2-3 good JC players (with one of them a real leader) and get 2-3 portal guys that are good and want to play...3 to 5 wins are then possible.
This is going to be a hard process, but I am optimistic that if some good players fall into place we can win. I don't think any of us realized just how bare the cupboard was...it was bereft of leadership and talent!
I'm an asshole! What's your excuse?
My guess is he doesn't want to compete with Texas Tech transfer Donovan Smith Source: Tech QB Donovan Smith having his name entered into NCAA transfer portal (lubbockonline.com). Speculation when he announced was he'd head to Ruston.
There's also a McCown (Josh's son) in the portal. Luke also has a kid graduating in next year

There was nothing left when Skippy skipped town. Add that to a first time head coach (99% of them will have growing pains and struggle a bit), and the fact that we don't offer all the same perks as some of our conference mates, and less than a lot of the rest of G5, it is going to be rough. If the staff makes some of the same mistakes they did this year that's a problem. if they grow and they get a couple of classes they want for their plan, then is should come along.
Holtz only did what he was allowed to do. He played the Tech administrators a much better game than the opponents he faced on the football field. Holtz was a flim flam man. It’s going to take some serious energy, brains and perseverance to dig us out of the hole we’re in.
