Never said Tech was a contender to win the tournament. But it 100% won't win it without that first round bye.
I can easily see this team losing a minimum of six more conference games which would put a winning conference record out of reach.
The main issue is they don’t actually have a team.
They have two players. Just TWO!
Williams and Willis.
Everyone else is basically useless ball watchers. There’s no defense anymore. There’s no rebounding. There’s no bothering with FT.
It’s stupid hero ball and Hester doesn’t seem to know how to make them a team.
I hope we didn’t hire a journeyman assistant coach to try to keep a player who was gone before the season ended. (Which btw seems like our PR/Social Media department spend more time promoting than the actual current team.)

UTEP goes to Charlotte and wins 60-58 after the 49ers miss three good looks in between 15 and 5 seconds left and miss a desperation heave after the Miners inevitably miss the front end of a 1-and-1 with 5 seconds left.

North Texas comes from behind to win at FIU.
Rice comes from 18 down to win at UTSA in OT.
Middle Tennessee managed to pull out the win over UAB by 1 in OT as the UAB shot that would have won it was just a couple of tenths late leaving the shooter's hand.
Tech improves from a tie for 8th to a tie for 6th without playing.

The teams seem really close this year. FAU isnt blowing everyone away, but they are winning all their close games. Lots of close games among many conference teams.

Numerous questionable coaching decisions late in games, poor use of time outs and substitutions, lack of defensive intensity

Hester seems to be very hesitant to use timeouts to stop 8-10 point runs by the opponent. There is something to be said for not pulling the trigger too quickly, but I don't think he has pulled the trigger fast enough too many times.
And I agree about the mental outlook of this team. This team has had leads and blown games too many times this year. It's almost better for them to play with no pressure like in the second half at North Texas. Just have to prevent the hole from being too deep like it was in that game.
The prior regime is sitting in the AAC cellar at 0-5 and 4-12 overall.
Mike white has Georgia rolling pretty well. Awesome to see him just being able to coach his team with no real expectations. Florida was too big for him at the time. I think he will end up back at a blue blood and find success. I hope that, at least! He brought such a fun brand of ball to Ruston!
And then he poached a player or two on the way out. He accomplished little to nothing at Tech.

Good to see you Saturday at the game. Here are my thoughts. Most teams that have a hard time scoring will have some "quick hitters and under 15(shot clock) plays. We don't have either. We are all about the ball screen. That's find but you have to have a BIG that can roll to that goal hard to command the off side defender to help which will open up our outside shooting. Well you know our "BIGS". So what happens, Williams defender goes under the screen, our BIG defender hedge hard on Williams and they force him into a tough shot or a reset. We are easy to scout and guard. We have got to get some sets with this team. We also got to get some out of bounds plays....SMH. Last we got to get a set to get the ball inbounds when the other team is pressing or pushing up on us.
Without Lofton, Konkol would not have won the 5 or 6 more games to get to 15-16 wins at this point with this group.
2 or 3 (maybe even 4) more wins would not have been out of the question, but 5 or 6 more would not have been likely considering that Tech has only lost 8 and Texas Tech and Wyoming would almost certainly have still been losses.
