What if we played aggressive on D and then slowed it down a bit and ran actual offensive plays on offense? We look like a team that would crush the Lambright regulars by way of athleticism and understanding of the game.

I do not think this team is void of talent. Talent is nothing with no actual plan. We are a team with a lot of ball players but no identity. You have to get these guys into their roles and coach accordingly. We are 20 games in, and I haven’t seen it. Disappointing

Konk isn’t doing $hit at Tulsa. They suck.

Talvin was a top assistant on a final four team that isn’t a blue blood. Surely he learned how to lead a group of young men to overachieve. Is having a hard time applying that to guys that aren’t “his guys”

Tulsa lost seven players from last season’s roster, including three of their top four players. Those lost accounted for 62% of scoring and 67% of rebounding. This is from a 11-20 team. Not to mention the American is a tougher league. They usually have multiple teams in the tournament, some years more teams than some of the Power 5 conferences. He is going to have to get some young high schoolers in who can play and he must crush the portal this off season. What Konkel is experiencing at Tulsa is what we call a major rebuilding project.

Hester was never a top assistant for a final four team, unless you count the 2021 NIT final four team here. I will give you some free information, nobody cares about the NIT anymore. It’s hot garbage. The NCAA tournament is all that matters. Two of the Ole Miss starters sat out the NIT or we might have even lost in the first round.

As far as these not being his guys, a big potion of our roster were recruited here while Hester was here. Not to mention many here have the idea that Hester got the job because these are his guys and with the hope he could get Junior to return. But there was NO WAY JUNIOR WAS RETURNING. That would have been a giant mistake on his part. He should have transferred.

No Hester is a mistake. Wood seems out of touch with basketball. Hiring Hester big mistake. Extending Stoehr another big mistake.

    Another Jerry Lloyd-ish performance -

    No bench coaching whatsoever

Hester talks a great game, but the results are milk toast

ANYONE can play HARD in your face defense, this team can't or won't even do that

So far the eye test evidence has Hester as the second coming of Jerry Lloyd.

So far the results for Wood hires have been mixed…
    1. Good - Softball
    2. Unknown - Football
    3. Unknown to Awful - Basketball

A journeyman assistant for 3 different schools in 5 years does not confidence inspire. As mentioned multiple times, I pray Wood didn’t hire a coach to keep a player who was already out. Please tell us he had a bigger plan than brining in an assistant coach as head coach for Junior. Junior was gone no matter who was the head coach.

This isn't close to Loyd levels yet because the talent top to bottom is better than what Loyd had after the NIT, NCAA, and NIT trips in 1990-1992. Yet is the operative word there.

Note that Loyd more than made up for having only one l in the correct spelling of his last name with all of the Ls he accumulated toward the end of his tenure (9-46 in 1992-93 and 1993-94).

First choice for a head coach should always have prior head coaching experience somewhere, anywhere. Josh Taylor had Division I head coaching experience, so his success with softball is not really a surprise. Cumbie was at least a head coach in arena football. Hester, nada.

Cumbie and Hester are on the clock, and Hester is going to have to do some hard work to hold things together through the rest of this season and into next year to get things back on track.

IMO, Hester needs to have the key players on the team play within themselves. Cobe and Isaiah can't try to win games themselves playing solo because that's when the mistakes start kicking in that just make things worse.

It think it's getting real close to Llllloyd levels -

He didn't inherit a talentless team and is personally responsible for most of the talent on the roster now

    Time will tell -

But I can easily see them finishing 4 games under .500 for the season

The "yet" from my previous post is completely dependent on holding things together and not having an exodus after this season. Otherwise the talent dropoff will be close to what it was by the end of that 2-25 (0-18 SBC) 1993-94 season.

3-7 for the rest of the regular season and a first round loss in Frisco would make 14-18. Could easily see that happening even if things turn around starting tomorrow in San Antonio. Hard to even see 3 more wins without a win at UTSA.

Oh yeah. If this season continues its trajectory and there is a transfer exodus (expected), then I expect next season to reach Loyd levels of losses.

Hester blames the players every single loss and expects them to perform without any direction.

I just hope Wood doesn’t let the program sink down to the 2 wins we got to enjoy under Loyd. That was my last year on campus. At least back then we had Barmore leading the Ladies to a national championship appearance. Now we don’t have that.

Loyd's teams reached the NIT twice and the NCAA's once...the very last Tech team to Dance. Unfortunately, we were 0-3 in those postseason games, losses to Depaul, Wake Forest, and Vanderbilt, as I recall. But, that was a very talented team with a frontline of P.J. Brown, "the Bear", and LeRon Ellis, and a backcourt of Guidry and Gibbs. After all that talent graduated, Eagles' recruits, save Gibbs, Loyd was left with only his recruits and savvy coaching....ahem.

If Hester is leading Tech MBB toward Loyd standards, fire him today. Why wait?

Yeah...it was kind of a rhetorical question.
