Baseball Colonels Blank Bulldogs in Series Finale

A new article has been posted on www.latechsports.com:

Nicholls State scored in five innings and three Colonel pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over Louisiana Tech before 2,141 fans on a partly cloudy and comfortable Sunday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

Burroughs on #LATech batters being called for two pitch clock violations:
"My argument was if I can't run my offense and give signals, there's no reason to have coaches out here. I have to have the ability to put on signals and run an offense. That ain't right."

Every other coach has to deal with this. Have to learn to get your stuff called and get in the box ready to go.

The first strike call was clearly justified. The second call was probably wasn't justified as much.

But I totally agree that Burroughs has to get the signs called on time. That's on him and nobody else.

The umpire making the calls was on a power trip. It was on him. The other two umps never made the call. Having a clock with men on base is insanity and should not be part of the game.

LB is not the only coach or team in the NCAA that is upset about this undefined rule.

Oh, I think the rule is stupid from the jump. But if there is a rule and you can be penalized a ball or a strike then it is imperative that you learn to follow it.

That’s a good thought on a rigid rule with no judgment involved. This rule has not been called consistently. The problem is exactly when the clock starts.

Somebody needs to program our hi-tech video board with a stop watch, triggered by the umps.
Then we can all see the ticks.
Stand-alone visible clocks are not required til next season. . . .

The second call was the power trip. Hegwood stepped out of the batter's box on the first one, and he must have violated the bolded part of the action clock rule related to batters.

Batters are expected to enter the batter’s box promptly prior to the first pitch of an at-bat and should remain in the batter’s box in accordance with the Batter’s Box Rule. Batters should not delay entry to gain an undue advantage. If the batter does not enter the box and become alert to the pitcher with 5 or more seconds remaining, the batter will be adjudged to have violated the rule and the umpire shall award a strike without the pitcher having to deliver the pitch. The ball is dead, and no runners may advance.

Only one ump makes the call because a base ump has the timing device, and it apparently sounds when the timer runs out.

A visible clock should be used, and Tech will be forced to add one in 2024 when it becomes mandatory for all Division I stadiums. Nolt going to hold my breath for Tech to do anything it doesn't have to like video replay.

Yes I know only one ump has the clock. Yesterday was the only day he had it and judging by the way he handled himself, it was his first time to ever call a series

Maybe when they install the ump activated stop watch they can also connect/display the radar guns, which we have two with pretty green and red lights, but no speed on scoreboard. Also, maybe we can get the program right to show accurate, up to the minute stats for players rather than each game is stand alone, everyone starts out with zeros!!!!!

For a program that’s kind of selling itself as moving up in national credibility and with such a great ballpark, Tech runs its baseball / fan support presentations much more Mickey Mouse small minded. I’d be surprised if there’s even a person in charge to think and direct such things. It’s just a happily overlooked pain in the ass to somebody starting with AD Woods.

After a couple of games attended, we have had no concessions issue. What specific problem do we have?

they don’t open the concessions until 30 minutes prior. Literally they don’t show up until 30 minutes prior so it’s actually about 15 minutes before first pitch. If someone wants food pregame through about the fifth inning there’s a minimum 20 minute wait. That’s BS.
