    That's part of it.

But there is much more to the story. From the moment Loyd got the job he had alums who had supported the program under Eagles and Russo actively working against him.

Everybody wanted somebody else when he was hired. Couple that with the fact word began to surface that what Coach Eagles was asking for when he left was very reasonable and Reneau wouldn't budge left many of our biggest supporters bitter. So Loyd had no support from the start. Completely left out in the cold.

Paul Miller, the AD who hired him, was fired, in part, for hiring Loyd. And Jerry Stovall, who replaced Miller, and who could have helped the situation, turned out to be a complete dud in the job.

Jerry couldn't get players real summer jobs, much less the no show jobs our competitors were giving their players. Not to mention the fact our competitors were raining cash on recruits and transfers from other schools, something we just didn't do.

At the time I was naive enough to believe race didn't have anything to do with it. It was obvious, over time, I was completely wrong.

Unfortunately, Jerry got bitter about it all. That only made the spiral worse.

At the same time, when Jerry had talent, both at Tech and Dillard, he turned in winning seasons.

Getting rid of Paul Miller was the biggest mistake ever made at Tech involving athletics. Jerry Stovall was an empty suit, and being in the LSU HOF, had no interest in Tech being successful.

Dan Reneau set Tech athletics back tremendously during his tenure, especially during the critical period of the 90’s. Les Guice seems to be clueless when it comes to athletics.

    Re: The Exodus Begins

Reneau set Tech athletics back tremendously? Hmmm... let's see what has happened in recent years to address this so-called set back.

    Football: 6 straight bowl wins
MBB: Under White and Konkol enjoyed success close to on-par with the best in history
    WBB: Ummm, ugh.
Baseball: Back-to-back trips to the NCAAs, and one under Goff too.

Now, I am among those who doesn't accept any of this as being our highwater mark, I think Tech can achieve more. And, I think the ceilings each of these coaches kept bumping into reflects a weakness on their part...look at White at UF and now UGA, not exactly setting the world on fire. But his, and the others', faults are NOT the fault of Reneau. They were all "good" coaches with a measure of success here, meaning the entire Tech Athletic Department had not descended into some deep hole, because of Reneau, and it is just the reality of the level of quality of the coaches/players who have played at Tech.

It is purely intellectual laziness to point the finger at Reneau, again, and again, and again...and how long has Guice been president? Yeah, exactly.
