    Re: Bulldogs Drop Midweek Contest

Amidst everything that is crazy wrong with how Burroughs is managing Tech baseball I don’t understand why he would sit Evans saying the game is moving too fast for him right now when Evans is hitting . 276, SLG .55, RBI 11, HR 2, SO 7 in 29 at bats. Meanwhile playing in his place at the ULM loss was Stafford… hitting .129, SLG .226, RBI 5, HR 0, SO 10 in 31 at bats. And oh btw Stafford struck out his 2 at bats. This decision making makes no sense whatsoever especially when considering that Tech can’t get hits and can’t score runs. If someone needs to sit because the game is too fast for them, whatever that really means, then how come Matulia hasn’t had a seat throughout his recent underachieving performances. Then there’s the bizarre pitching decisions exemplified by pulling the ineffective slow throwing lefty Harland for his equally ineffective slow throwing wyly coyote taller and heavier twin brother. Putting these two guys on the mound back to back is just asking for trouble. If our best pitcher is Bates then why is he closing? Tech doesn’t need a closer to close out losing. I mean come on how hard is that to figure out. Can someone explain this stuff to me because I’ve only been playing, coaching and watching baseball for 60 years and I simply don’t get it.

Can I assume all these well thought out details have been shared with our coach?
If your. response is “he shouldn’t have to be told” please don’t waste your time responding. I get that. I just hate to think one would hold back being honest and up front to someone saddled with the challenging situation to their face. That is much more likely to illicit positives.

Has Safford fielded his position better than the alternatives? If so, maybe Burroughs sees him as an Alex Ray type player. Alex never blew the cover off the ball, but was pretty steady in the field. Harland gave up hits, but it sounded like he ate up innings too. We have some pitchers who can’t get through 3 batters. Is the alternative better than Harland? I do agree that Evans has to be in the lineup every day.

Are you serious? Ray was horrible in the field! He was so bad, LB told him to go home last year before the 2022 season started (pretty sure it was the summer of 2021 when he was let go)

Is a .921 fielding percentage that bad?Ince had 4 balls hit at him in one game and 3 went under his glove. That seems worse.

For perspective, Taylor Young fielded at .971 last year and many consider him a generational talent.

We've had errors in several home games that hurt us, but that were not scored errors. Examples: Infield pop ups not being caught, fly balls not being played correctly, not hitting the relay man.

Yes, it's bad. Almost 1 in 10 opportunities went for an error. He was also really bad at the plate and could not get a bunt down when needed.

Please don't compare him to Young. That's just crazy talk.

Just trying to get some perspective. As I said, I have watched players on this team get multiple opportunities in the field after a pitiful performance booting half or more of their opportunities in a single game. Sure makes Alex look like a world beater.

No it does not. Alex could not field or hit. None of our current players are as bad as he was. He was HORRIBLE!

    Re: Bulldogs Drop Midweek Contest

Tech’s team is extremely shallow of capable players. There are essentially the 8 repeat fielders (Corona - C, Davis - 1st, Evans - 2nd, McLeod - SS, Bates - 3rd, Matulia - LF, Myers - CF & Hogart - RF with Burchfield as DH) and that’s it. The rest can’t field competently or hit, not that anyone is hitting all that well anyway. I guess you can say that Burroughs has experimented with his team all he could. Now it’s time to go with what you’ve got whether it works or not. The only other option is to take the red shirts off some people and go with a whole new team.

We can agree to disagree. I have seen 12 U teams with more fielding talent than we have at some spots this year.

Folks have been calling for Brooke's firing, her and her hubby. Yet! it appears her Techsters will be the most successful team Tech had this academic year! Yeah, baby! 19-13, one and done in the WNIT is the high-water mark for the empty suiter, Wood. Give Brooke a raise and an extension. Can't lose our most successful coach!

    It's bad, folks...
