This is a link to pick and choose what race you might want to keep an eye on in the local and statewide races. So far, its early, but Landrieu isn't nearing 50% and Stelley is going down!

The last thing I saw was Landrieu with 48%. That's getting to close for comfort. Have you heard of anything going on in La. with regards to voting. In Arkansas a judge extended voting hours in Pulaski County for an hour and a half beause supposedly some polling places ran out of ballots. Then the Arkansas Supreme Court overturned the decision saying that a judge could not change election law and any vote cast after 7:30 was not to be counted.

I've not seen anything close to 48% yet for Landrieu. Last I saw was 45 w/ about 25% of the Orleans precincts in.

Well, I see 47% for Landrieu.

Lee Fletcher looks like he might be creaping up on the runoff spot - hope so!

And, ugggh - so far the Stelley plan is winning.

Not sure I understand all of these, but the alcohol referendums in Ruston are passing except for the 3 1/2% beer one. Not sure what that means.

Looks like Landrieu is still at 47%. It'll be a circus in La. for the next month if there's a runoff.

You answered my next question about the alcohol refendums but I'm also confused about the beer ref. not passing.

Latest shows Landrieu down to 46%. And, Tech Grad Lee Fletcher is within a few hundred votes of making the runoff against Democrat Rodney Alexander. I expect the Republican will win that seat, so it'd be GREAT if he could squeeze in the runoff!

Fletcher has pulled into second now.

The Stelley plan is looking like it will pass - Yucko!

Looking like a senatorial runoff so far - welcome good old big time $$$$ for the runoff. And, the way I figure it, Landrieu has a really good chance to lose in the runoff. Still think I'd rather the Republicans win it tonight, but it would be fun for us to give 'em the victory in December if necessary!

In Ruston, Props 1, 2, & 5 passed. That means that current beer sales remain legal in stand-alone Bars and Stores (#1 and 2). And, that ALL alchol may be served in restaurants (#5).

Props 3 & 4 failed. That means that no hard liquor sales in stores or stand-alone bars, just beer, wine coolers, and the like.

Can you Louisiana people tell me why in the world you can't adopt a primary like the rest of the civilized world?

We are hopelessly third world here AD. Our constitution has been amended over 150 times, our roads suck, our schools suck, our ports suck. I can't think of a part of our infastructure that does not suck. The reason that nothing changes is because the populist who run this state are not going to do anything that might cause them to lose their individual power.

The closest political entity to Louisiana is Argentina during the Peron years. They had a "make a wish" campaign whereby you would right on a piece of paper what it was you wanted; e.g., a vacation, college education, a boat. Then, someone in the government decided whether or not to let the government pay for it. The story goes, they would throw up a piece of paper with the wish on it, and if Eva caught the paper, then you would get your wish.

We do the same thing here. That is why we have a four year university for every family here. That's also why we're going broke. We don't tell anyone, "no" here.

So, the reason we have our election system here is because the populist of all populist govenors, Edwin Edwards, willed it so. No one has the guts to put it back like it should be.

The tragic thing is, I really like living here, and am happy. We have a lot of great people who live here, and a lot to be proud of. I just don't see politics changing in my lifetime.

Sooner, I think the biggest slap in the face came to me the other night (yes, I still do consider myself a Louisianan). I was watching the election results on CNN and they were interviewing Ann Richards. When discussing the Louisiana Senate race, she made the remark, "Well, they have a screwed up system down there".

Ann Freaking Richards was bagging on our political system.

I have a friend from Honduras who also lived in Louisiana. One day we were having a conversation about Louisiana and I made the comment that Louisianans for some reason, seem to embrace the things that make them inferior (i.e. making jokes about thier crooked politicians). He remarked to me that he felt the same way and added, "that's very much a third world quality". It's a way of saying, "We suck, we've got no choice but to suck, so we might as well joke about it". It's very frustrating.

Louisiana has a big problem and it is really all a few things ... provincialism, nepotism and apathy.

Every person from Louisiana should be required to travel around the United States, and if possible to other countries, for TWO YEARS upon graduation from high school or college. That way they can get a good feel for what is great about Louisiana and what is not so great about Louisiana. You come back wanting to change how things are. Unfortunately MANY folks from Louisiana will never set foot outside the borders of their parish, much less the state. We have a state of folks who think Louisiana is the greatest and wouldn't know any better because they haven't been anywhere.

I did this travel thing (Washington State, New York, California, DC, Texas, Missouri, Saudi Arabia, Canada) and it opened my eyes. I came back and helped with a LOUISIANA software consulting company getting off the ground. Unfortunately all of our work was in Texas. We might as well have been located in Houston. The company is still there even though I no longer am involved. If any of you need some IT work done on a contract basis, go to http://www.moceansoft.com/ ... Also check out the cool logo. My wife did that .. Anyway, folks pay high school kids for degreed work here and they gladly settle for lower quality as long as the cost is low. That is also why classy restaurants have a hard time staying in business in Baton Rouge. Cheap is good. Period. Quality is hardly EVER considered. Also, giving business to people you know, no matter how incompetent, is more important than paying the best man to do a job. It encourages people to stay, but it makes the ones who are more qualified want to leave because Bubba is gonna get the work anyway.

This is why the good folks leave. They see the provincialism, nepotism and apathy and they realize that it will take GENERATIONS to solve that problem. Most of us are not that patient.
