Go Dawgs! It’s prime time to get to firing on all cylinders. One thing I’m hoping is that Burroughs sees the advantage in flip flopping Matulia and Burchfield. The stats are blindingly obvious that the optimum run producing option would be for these batters to be reversed.
Currently Matulia has 41 strikeouts in his 134 at bats to Burchfield’s 20 in 96 at bats. That’s significant in itself. What gets interesting and important though, is this. Matulia has 13 home runs and 30 RBI to Burchfield’s 4 homers and 20 RBI. In these numbers is that Matulia has 17 RBI not counting his individual homers while Burchfield has 16 RBI and with 38 less at bats from when Burroughs wasn’t playing him. Quite simply based on the statistical results it doesn’t make sense to give Matulia more at bats than Burchfield. All this says is that in the case of these two batters Burroughs needs to think to give the team their best chance to win by moving Burchfield much higher in the order and Matulia much lower. Coach to your strengths.
Matulia is feast or famine. He has a big, looping swing that generates a lot of power but makes him vulnerable to change-ups and breaking balls. He never should have been batting 2nd last year, which he did most of the time as I recall.
Our best hitter (per average) strikes out looking too often. Sadly we don't have another option for the one hole.
DH in the 8 hole. Not a good sign.
I'm betting we have a better hitter who our HC does not like as much. He is determined to keep a .200 hitter as our DH..
another backwards K by the 9 hole.
Lead off again...pop up for the final out.
Dallas Baptist has the book on our ace. Fincher is toast, but LB will stick with him until we are down at least 6 runs.
Only 3 more runs until our ace is pulled by LB. Down 3-0 now.
two on no outs for the good guys...
2nd and 3rd now with a run in..no outs
...and just like that we have runners on 2nd and 3rd after two outs.
Our one hole guy up again...
strike one
ball one
strike 2
ground out.
0-3 with two strike outs.
Fincher only has one more run to give up until LB pulls him. We are down 5-1 now.
...and he gives up another HR. Our "Ace" is now down 6-1.
Never fear. Harlan will be coming in next.
It’s looking like DBU can do anything they want against us and pretty much stop whatever we try to do. Sadly its probably just a matter of how bad this game is going to get at this point.
