Louisiana Tech in Final 6 for USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC)

Today Louisiana Tech's bowling team bowled a 24 baker game qualifier along with 15 other of the top women's teams across all divisions. Louisiana Tech sits in 2nd after qualifying. A few other NCAA teams are in it along with some other traditionally strong historical programs like Wichita State and Webber International.

Tech averaged 210 for the day.

McKendree is sitting in the top spot and was the #1 team in NCAA play this year. They bowed out in the national semi-finals this year in the NCAA bracket.

My understanding is that this tournament is based on bowling in certain tournaments. Some NCAA teams, it seems, opt out of this path preferring to focus on NCAA competition.

Louisiana Tech lost their first round match to SCAD 4-3 and will face Duquesne (NCAA Top 10 Team) tomorrow in the elimination bracket. Long path from this point but someone has to get out of this bracket. Might was well be us.
We started slow today before getting hot during qualifying so this team is capable of making a run out of a tough spot.

We face the winner of Lindenwood vs. Maryville (NCAA Top 10 Team).

SCAD is a solid squad and has one of the best coaches in the college ranks who is an assistant with Team USA. In fact, the best female bowler in Louisiana this year is headed to Savanah to continue her career (out of Airline).

Looks like we advanced past Duquesne 4-2 and will face Lindenwood next in about half an hour. If we win that match we will face the winner of SCAD vs. Mount Mercy

Is this truly women's bowling or are there some dudes who identify as women participating?

Louisiana Tech advances over Lindenwood 4-2. Will face SCAD in an attempt to avenge their first round loss. Tech was down 1-2 at the start of this round and went 3-0 to close it out.

Eight teams have been eliminated. Down to the Final 8 teams. Tech has to go through all three other BLUE teams to face the winner of RED for an Intercollegiate Team national title.

    Wichita State 0 loss
    Maryville 0 loss
    Louisiana Tech 1 loss
    SCAD 1 loss
    RED

Tech 4-0 over SCAD it seems. Will face Maryville next. Down to 6 teams in this round. A win here gets us to the Final 4.

If Tech makes the round with WSU, they will have to beat them twice to make it to the national championship game

    BLUE

    Wichita State 0 loss
    Maryville 1 loss
    Louisiana Tech 1 loss

    RED

    McKendree 0 loss
    Stephen F. Austin 1 loss
    North Carolina A&T 1 loss

Maryville wins 4.5-2.5 they will move on to face Wichita State for a right to play in the Intercollegiate championship.

It is down to three NCAA teams and Wichita State who does not compete in NCAA play. That said, they are likely the most storied program in college bowling having produced a number of professionals on the men and womens side. Their women have 10 ITC titles and their men have 14. ITC championships have been run since 1975. Typically governing bodies run these when NCAA and other governing bodies do not sanction play. NCAA began play in 2004.

So to spoil it for everyone. Maryville goes on to play Wichita State and after being down 3-0 in a first 7 game series roars back to force a second. They also went on to win that in dramatic fashion. A commentator on Twitter said it was the most exciting bowling match he had ever seen at the collegiate level. That put Maryville in the national championship match where they lost to McKendree who set an NCAA qualifying record at the event and was dominant in running the table. They really have been dominant this year. Their loss in the NCAA championships bracket was an upset.

Remember Tech qualified 2nd, behind a ITC record setting effort.

All in all, bodes well for the future.
