Philip Matulia and Walker Burchfield hit back-to-back homers with two outs in the first inning to open the faucet, the first two of 21 runs scored in a 13-8 win for No. 6-seed Louisiana Tech over No. 3-seed Charlotte in the 9 a.m. Wednesday opener of the 2023 Conference USA Baseball Championship at Reckling Park on the campus of Rice University.

Dalton Davis and Safford have really stepped it up in the last 4 weeks of the season...

I wouldn’t pile on too much praise for Safford just yet, he still makes too many errors on plays that he should make and his batting is still behind what we need it to be for a really good SS. The one thing he is, is better than Drost.

I wouldn’t pile on too much praise for Safford just yet, he still makes too many errors on plays that he should make and his batting is still behind what we need it to be for a really good SS. The one thing he is, is better than Drost.

He has played well enough this last part of the season to warrant bringing him back -

To me Drost has been a huge bust - in the field and at the plate

Bates and Davis are keepers - both could be really good for us next year

I feel they have to go out and get TWO front line juco pitchers and one solid juco set-up guy in addition to a SS

He has a crush on Drost. LB has already said he wants him back. Tons of JUCO guys who could help us more

If Drost could cut his strike outs in half next year he’d still have about double what Davis has. If Burroughs is truly serious about Tech being back to the NCAA caliber Tech then Drost among a number of others shouldn’t be invited back for next year. Tough times calls for tough decision making.
