New President!!

We've had 5 children who graduated from Tech over the past 12 years. This should have been a time of building pride and enjoying the Tech experience that I enjoyed. It don't think it happened. We need a president who not only loves tech and wants to spruce up the campus through politics (tax dollars), but one who puts the "window" (no doubt athletics) at the top of their list along while instilling passion in those who spent time and invested thousands of dollars while there. I'd love to see a person who can mix with those who can only give a few hundred dollars as well as those with a blue or gold parking pass.

Is it fair to say that Guice and Reneau both cared about Tech while having no idea how to run the university? I can’t imagine either of them had any malicious feelings when they made decisions. Being inept and inexperienced doesn’t mean you didn’t care. Or am I giving to much credit?

I do think that. I don't believe they were intentionally trying to sabotage things.

I think Reneau had a plan and he followed it (we just didn't like it). We all know Oakes was a political hire/favor that was told to balance the books on the athletics side, because Reneau had is agenda academically etc.

I think Guice came in wanting to change things some and I do think he tried some during those early years. I think he realized he wasn't going to be allowed to grow Tech by Baton Rouge and the way the ULS system is run. That is deflating and it shouldnt (when you are in a leadership position), but butting your head against a brick wall will affect you.

Then conference realignments started and never really stopped and some the criteria for moving up are out of our control, and covid for a little bit, etc. I personally see Guice as someone who is frustrated and exhausted and that its time for him to enjoy the grandkids and all the years of work he put in at all levels.

We all agree we needs someone from outside that can run it and grow Tech as a business. Henderson and Baton Rouge will never allow that to happen. I want a visionary, but I will take someone who loves Tech and will at least try to protect it, because I fear someone getting the job with the mandate from Baton Rouge to actually hurt us.

Honestly, I will never begrudge someone who went to a school having loyalty to the school even if they didn't graduate. I can't stand wal-mart fans.

In the South though when the land grant schools use their legislatures and politics to hinder anyone and everyone else, you are bound to get a Stovall... what you can't get is two!!!

Jim Henderson despises Tech and will try to sabotage the hiring of a truly capable, competent leader. Henderson will seek to employ some nonsense like "diversity" to avoid hiring someone strictly on merit. It's going to be hard to believe but get ready for a worse president than Guice has been. You have been warned.

Come January 1 2024 that will no longer be the case. This presents the CCC Club with an opportunity to demonstrate to us all their outstanding recruiting skills regarding his replacement. They have a clean white board upon which they can write the ideal resume' for the perfect candidate of their design. We are waiting with great anticipation.

Yeah when you lead from behind, don’t have it in you to fight and you can’t seem to outsmart your opposition then you settle for cellar status. So if everything is always so uphill and so unfairly stacked against Tech then how come ULL does better at all things sports?

Ropp was president when I graduated. I never knew whether he was a Tech product or an outsider when he got the job. The student body loved him. Taylor came after I left. Never knew much about him. He was the first of the next three that were all Tech products. Reneau was a student at the same time I was though I did not know him very well. He was president when I moved to Ruston. He had a monster of an ego. He hated to share the lime light with Leon Barmore and the Lady Techsters. He wanted to be the sole icon of Tech. That attitude may have had some influence on the manner in which he handled the replacement of Barmore as the Techster coach. Guice was also a Tech product. Personally, I am not aware of any outstanding accomplishments nor gross mistakes made by Guice. He seems to have maintained the status quo of Tech, but has not brought any national attention to the university.

The foremost question that I have at this very early stage of the search effort is whether Tech will end up with another case of incest or go outside.
