I like what he says and where he has been! Finally a move away from academia running a technical school to a business approach!

Nearly an hour-long interview and not even a mention of athletics. When Henderson says he is a lot like Guice in philosophy of leadership, he means it.
Henderson played college football at West Point, until an injury ended his playing and Army career. His dad played football for Coach Aillet at Tech. I did not know any of this prior to this interview. He was only at NSU 2 years and as I recall he was not involved with the athletic department, except to be the obligatory supporter at tailgates and games. Greg Burke and Doug Ireland were running NSU's athletic department, so it was in pretty good hands. Maybe Henderson saw no need to get actively involved. That is not true at Tech. Our athletics has a huge problem. We shall see what President Henderson does or doesn't do.
What he did a BPCC was amazing.
Eliminate extra programs to cut costs.
Institute new popular programs to get more enrollment.
Transfer a ton of commitment to online education.
Build an entirely new campus infrastructure on a growth corridor.
His focus may not be on athletics, but he knows how to cut costs and continue to build enrollment at a college.
I know there are pluses and minuses to everything, but we leave a lot of money and technically "enrollment" on the table but not having as robust online offerings as a lot of other schools today.
I have posted before that universities are dinosaurs, and if they wish to not go extinct like the dinosaurs they have to change. Universities need to be run by MBAs...not that the president has to actually hold an MBA, just that they have to think and conduct BUSINESS like an MBA would. That is, look at the university as a business and operate accordingly. There are various "customers" of a university: students, the community, businesses (large and small), alumni, taxpayers, and therefore "the government" such as the state the university serves, and perhaps a few others.
Jim Henderson has a good business background and when he was named president at NSU many folks around here were excited and thought (hoped) he would use some of that business savvy to improve the operation of NSU, manage the budget, etc... he did none of that. In fact, he proved to be worse than President Webb. Now, to be fair, he was only at NSU 2 years and he was active in reviewing operations, every college, every department, so perhaps he was gathering information with a plan to streamline, etc...and he left before he could actually implement a plan. Maybe. I do know he did tremendous damage to NSU's connection to the business world, namely leading to the elimination of the SBDC (SBA) department, and hamstringing the College of Business' efforts to reach out to businesses in seeking partnerships, etc. Not exactly "business friendly." But, as I said, maybe he had that as part of a plan he never had the chance to implement.
Now, he is president at Tech, and I hope he is not using Tech as a stepping-stone, which is also a very real possibility given his track record. He did apply for the chancellorship at LSU-BR. So... we shall see.
I will say, that's a more clever bot than we've been getting
