I know the basics are things such as enrollment increases, so lets throw that out already.
What accomplishments are you looking for a President to make? Any examples from other schools/Presidents?
Better communication and interaction with graduates and donors. The people working in the current alumni center have been doing the same things for at least the past 20+ years. It's not working. We have a steady flow of Tech grads who lose interest in Tech immediately after getting their sheep skin. We need to cultivate "Fans of Tech". Fans don't evolve from graduation, attendance, or bureaucratic BS. They evolve from great memories while at Tech (being a winner) and from receiving attention with real marketing.
We've got to pay lower level employees real money. We've got to know they are passionate about doing their jobs and enjoy what they do. Before this can be put in place we've got to have real leadership. Our presidents have done nothing in this area during my post-Tech attendance. Our last AD was a total failure and it appears our current AD is an empty suit as well. BVDV was an outsider who made some horrible blunders, but I don't believe he ever made a move without getting the nod from his boss. He actually knew the business, but was out of touch with our culture.
President, AD, Alumni Director, most of all well paid assistants in the alumni/athletic departments.
I'm looking for a President who "gets it". I want one who can put separation between Tech and the rest of the schools in Louisiana (in a positive way) and put Tech back on the national stage. Not only in athletics, but academically as well. When I attended Tech in early 80's Tech had one of the top 5 Petroleum Engineering programs in the Nation. Our Bio-Med Engineering program overall was tops. Our PE program doesn't exist anymore. Are we known for any engineering currently on a national level?
ULL's engineering college has gained in stature, especially regionally, can't speak to any national/international prestige for them. I don't know much about their college of engineering, have never investigated it, but what I do know is I kept running into ULL graduates in engineering and we even contracted with one, who has his own firm, when I was repeatedly rejected by Tech's engineering department even though I practically begged them to partner with us (GSI). This ULL grad had ties to ULL's COE and used their facilities and hired their current graduate students for specific tasks. Seems to me that ULL's COE is trying to be pro-active and is seeking opportunities for itself and its graduates. FWIW

It’s sad but that’s exactly the type of stuff I’m talking about.
Make it or break times are a coming for Tech. The new president can either pivot to set new standards and expectations for Tech athletics or cement our place in perpetual crapiness. First things first is to personally hold an athletic department meeting and tell AD Woods and all the coaches that they have to work harder at being better and winning. Not winning and seriously competing for conference championships means you’ll lose your job (period). Second is the fan experience. Pay attention to what the fans say and do it. Third is to make it to where the students participate in funding the school’s athletic program. Everybody contributes to the overall good and thereby owns an interest in things being the best they can be. Start there and things have a chance to improve. Continue to do the nothing burger job that Tech has been doing under Guice and Tech will inevitably be the worst D1 school in the state.
Every season of sucking makes the next year doubly difficult. If the Tech powers at be and especially the new president don’t demand an immediate all hands on deck turnaround the first day he takes the job then he’ll be off to a bad start. Every sports’ coach should be given notice that if the next season isn’t improved they’ll be replaced. It’s as simple as that.
On the last vote last year I believe on increasing the athletic fee for students, when it was put to the student body for voting to increase the athletic fee, Professors at Tech were actively lobbying against it and were giving students extra credit if they voted it down.
