    Replays on video board

Who is ultimately responsible for replays on the video board? Crucial plays and all we get is a rotating LaTech logo with a Marvin Gaye song? Talk about disengaging what few fans are in the stands. Who ever is in charge needs to go. We need a name. Been complaining about this since the video board went up. Who is video replay guy?

Yep, I could see it in my mind as I listened on the radio. Our people are inept in all departments regarding sports production. Our radio PxP guy is the worst I've ever heard, but that's what you get when you go cheap.

I think it's pretty much someone new every year because we don't pay athletic support staff enough for them to stay more than a year. Not just video board but overall video production, marketing, game management, etc.

Wonder if it’s just students doing internships in production type roles like the baseball team wants to use for analytics?

Ruston high school has a student team live streaming football games and it’s top notch. Maybe we can recruit them as Tech students and have them take over!

    Re: Replays on video board

Id say the video production unit is a low-budgeted item . . . i.e. let's have intern-level positions who gain experience at Tech and go on and get a job elsewhere for real pay.

Concept and vision from the top position is learned on the job. Sports Properties has its input.

Live TV production (ESPN+, CBS Sports Networi) get the prioroty in pecking order, but their images aren't shared enough with the in-house crowd.

Video board is an extension of Sports Properties. The top video board producer must have the skill, knowledge and concept of inserting replays on the fly, meshing images with goofy music interactions with the few dancing fans who are present.

I can't wait for the day when the only response you get when someone is asked about the video board is, "We only have ' x' more games to put up with this video board."

Wonder what excuse they'll have when they get the new video board (and speaker system).

PS-I'll be here all day if you want any other random comments.

I heard that a few years ago, Tech reached out to the RHS video production team about doing Bulldog football games. Supposedly they declined since they had already been tasked with doing GSU football.

Watch a RHS football game on Facebook. The production is nearly flawless with an instant replay after every play within 2-3 seconds. It's amazing what they can do.

Perfect example of youth and inexperience running our video board is the graphics with text so small it can't be read from the 50-yard line, much less the other end of the field. Scores from other games, for example. Why put up 6-8 games at a time where no one can read them? Scroll through them two games at a time with larger text so they can be read. Youth and inexperience.

Just got home from the Ruston game tonight (granddaughter is involved with one of the cheer groups). While the speaker system needs a huge upgrade, the video board itself is very well run. And you are correct, within 2-3 seconds a replay of the previous play is on the board. Granted it's just a wide view, but the simple fact that they can make that happen is impressive compared to the inept running of the Tech video board.

Yes, Ruston and many, many high schools are doing great jobs with their video boards, but don't necessarily buy the GSU angle. They HAVE a professional running their department (and sports production curriculum) and has for several years. His GSU students are the ones who man cameras/sound dishes when a network comes in to do Tech games.
