Isn't this the damn truth! We've got too many
selfish career climbers holding down high-paying jobs in LA Tech's athletic department.
I knew LA Tech was in trouble when we hired "Dr. Eric Wood" for all the wrong reasons. When Wood --with no experience as a school Athletic Director-- insisted being named a school "Vice President" in addition to our AD, I knew it was a bad hire. We should have taken our briefcase and left the negotiating table. We didn't need another school VP. What we NEEDED was a
good AD. If we hadn't hired Wood, someone else would have eventually taken the job and done just fine. But somebody at LA Tech (Les Guice?) thought it was cool to hire an unproven AD who was narcissistic and passionate about professional job titles (e.g., Dr, VP, etc...).
As for Wood, he may be a talented guy, but he is obviously more focused on his career steps than he is on hiring good football and basketball coaches and making LA Tech a successful athletic program. He was hired by Tech in October 2020, and was caught completely off guard a year later when 9 CUSA schools announced they were leaving CUSA for greener pastures. Even though he had a full year as AD under his belt, Wood was no help to LA Tech. He certainly doesn't strike me as a "roll up your sleeves workhorse" kind of guy that knows how to get things done, and done fast. When he and his administrative assistant demanded that she be called "Chief of Staff", I knew these people were not a good cultural fit for LA Tech.
Fact is, these people are focused on the wrong things. So, while they "play office" on Louisiana Tech's dime, Tech's athletic program is being slowly burned to the ground.
