Stuck with Cumbie for another year?

I was hoping a new head football coach would be the one hiring a new defensive coordinator, along with other assistant coaching positions.

    According to Footballscoop.com:

I’m sure this was mandated by the AD.

We don’t have the money to fire him unless Davidson wants to write a check.

Next year we will have to fire both him and the AD. Henderson already has a mess on his hands left from the “guy who gets it.”

I'll do it. I played for one of the best DCs in Louisiana high school football history, Coach Henry Rando. A defensive genius, and tough as nails. I remember how he coached us. He would say, "you guys are small, but y'all are slow." Meaning, of course, we lacked all physical attributes to be good football players. Never satisfied, no matter what we did. He studied game film for hours, no for days, and then brought us in to watch edited films so he could show us our next opponent's tendencies, strengths and weaknesses. We also had full contact drills on Tuesdays and Wednesdays every week, even into the playoffs, never a day off for us. Thursdays would be run-throughs of the opponent's offense again in full pads. Fussing at us constantly! Like a frickin' drill sergeant.

We hated him! We loved him! Made us better than we had any right to be. Never complimented us...except, if you did something really, really good, he would tap you on the helmet and say "good job peanut!" Wow! that made you feel great.

Unfortunately, in these days of pampered, spoiled athletes none of that "tough love" would work.

Re: Stuck with Cumbie for another year?

This was clearly a preemptive firing by Cumbie along with Wood of course to do something before Henderson becomes the man in charge. There was no way they could do nothing, so since Cumbie is the supposed offensive guy, defense had to be the first scape boat. I mean it’s pretty undeniable, right? All in all it might help some, but Cumbie is still the biggest bugaboo with this team. So, now the next DC will either bring in his own defensive staff or stick with what he’s got. Either way Tech is still at more or less a starting place with a new defensive concept and players who aren’t as good as all the other teams’.

If we stick to the modus operandi, the next d.c. will be someone sans FBS d.c. experience, jus' like the deadwood a.d. with NO FBS a.d. experience and the h.c. with NO FBS h.c. experience. Wouldn't be surprised if crummy and deadwood don't promote one of the defensive position coaches with fcs background, only. That would be the cheapest and easiest way to go.

Regarding the shiny new DC...will Cumbie leave them alone is the question?

He has demonstrated to have a fragile ego, thin skin with the stunt he pulling bullying BC at practice then goes and doubles and triples down with his media appearances. Thick skin is a requirement if you are going to be a head coach; Cumbie has shown to not have it.

Doesn't matter. Any time spent thinking about the new DC is better utilized in other pursuits.

What FCS teams has Cumbie seen play lately? 2022 - SFA & 2023 - NSU (they haven't given up any points lately)

Who coached the offense and special teams? They were both equally as bad. I thought Holtz sucked at special teams, but not as bad as Cumbie.

Re: Stuck with Cumbie for another year?

If Cumbie is calling the offensive plays what does he need with an Offensive Coordinator for? Maybe Tech should save the money and not have that coaching job. Holtz did the same thing and with the same results. Speaking of Holtz somebody correct me if I’m wrong but I swear it looked like Cumbie was running Holtz’s offense all season. How is that possible? Was Tech obligated to run Holtz’s crappy offense and defense until his contract date expired… just kidding but it sure seems that way. The further removed Tech is from Holtz the longer the stink is lasting.

Word is that Tech has now fired the QB coach and the DB coach.
