Re: Here come the Hens, who's next?

Since when has any common sense ruled any realignment the past decade?

I actually think WKU would be better suited in the MAC - both them and MT

I actually think SBC splits within 5 years and we end up in the West...

I agree. It's a much tighter conference (I think before UMASS the longest distance was around 600 miles).

I don't care what's better for them, I want what's better for us.

I'm not saying I wouldn't send a team off the the MAC with best wishes for like a pack of gum in exchange (much less that GOR payout), it just wouldn't be WKU.

Didn't all this long-distance conference nonsense start with LATech's wacky trips to Hawai'i?

Realignment is going to happen again.

SEC and B1G really want a priority league for the P2. So I see them both expanding and telling everyone else to take it or leave it.

My prayer is the rest of us become regional again and restore some sense to College Athletics.

Yeah we are spinning our wheels in this mess as is. No telling where the G5s will end up. The power conference guys will no longer need or want to play us and they will eventually take over the big dance. What I’m thinking is the NCAA will be a thing of the past at some point.

I think the "Big Dance" in men's BB has to stay pretty close to what the business model already is, because the low seed "Cinderella" teams really make the tournament a special and unique sporting event. I was more interested in watching the NCAA Tournament last year than I had been in many years simply due to G5 FAU running the table all the way to the Final Four. That was fun. I just can't see the NCAA Tournament God's giving up the FAU's, and other G5's going forward. The smaller conference schools and low seeds are just too important to the tournament's brand.

Now, in football, I believe you're right. The Power Conferences don't need anything from the G5 schools.

    It’s CBS vs ESPN.

CBS loves the tournament the way it is because it’s an experience that brings in interest from outside and casual fans.

ESPN just wants the big brands. The rest of the schools are worthless to them.

I hope you're right about March Madness, but I worry that the people making the decisions don't seem to think long term or big picture. The wealthier leagues want more and more of the pie. I do think they're more likely to expand again than to totally block the little guys out. But I don't think that's great either.

Re: Here come the Hens, who's next?

The easiest and far most sensible thing to do is to put the SEC/B1G football into an EPL based on a North/South League model complete with promotion/relegation.

Then rearrange all the other CFB (from FBS to FCS divisions) playing schools around geographical areas into an EFL Championship/EFL League One/EFL League Two tiered system.

    Again with promotion/relegation.

Keep your olympic sports the same way since there is no distinction in FBS/FCS when it comes to basketball, baseball, softball, etc...

I am telling y'all this is the way to go. It makes football exciting again for every level and makes things a possibility like climbing promotion ranks or fighting off relegation.

But nobody already in would ever agree to be relegated. It's not easy because nobody would agree to it (who currently has any power).

    Respectfully disagree.
The coaches and ADs from the lower tier P5 teams need wins and the best way to get them is by playing G5 teams. Without the P5 vs G5 games, many P5 programs will go winless. That is the quickest way to get fired and lose alumni money.
