These cost include SCHOLARSHIP $$$ which are much lower at TECH than at any other WAC schools...
I'm one of the first to bag on Jim when I think we are being short-changed on the $$$ side of things - but
This goes to prove that Jim does more with less than anyone in the country...
Dr Reneau it is time to step up the plate and fund our programs so that we can countinue to compete at such a high level of success in the WAC...
Please give Jim the free hand to go out and HIRE someone to raise the money to fund our programs adequately - only YOU can do this...

Dr. Reneau is at a crossroads in his career. He's got to decide if he's in or out. Frankly, I think there's no turning back now, so I don't know what the hell the man is waiting for.
Hey...Dr. Reneau....with all due respect, please GET OFF YOUR BUTT and COMMIT to the football program.

In a strange kind of way, this information makes me even prouder to be an alumni of La Tech. Talk about bang for your buck! Is this same information available for the Sunbelt schools?
-
...if Reneau would stop spending time in Grambling and more time in Ruston we could "right the ship".
Sure are books are spectacular comapred to other state universities but Reneau must step outside the box on the athletic fundraising issues.
We have the best in the business working for Tech right now. Give him some money to invest and watch the dividends roll into the coffers.
Until things change we will be in a position where we must whore out our football program for the sake of the entire athletic department.
The days of Anybody, Anytime, Anywhere should be over. We have been at this for 15 years now. We must be able to pick our battles when it comes to football scheduling. OSU, Clemson, PSU & aTm is a brutal road for most BCS teams. We are charging uphill staring at loaded barrels pointed at us.
Take the saftey caps of the gun and lets start shooting at higher levels than where we are stuck at currently.

Any idea why SMU spends 5.7 million on football. Is that mostly due to the high tuition costs, and what else? Just wondering.
-
Take out the scholarship cost at Rice, SMU, and Tulsa and they spend a lot less $$$ than it appears, not that it is less than TECH.
Unless those are all endowed-who knows???
As far as the 15 years of anyone....I'd scale that back to when we got out of the Big West/Jerry Stovall/JRP era...those were not good times especially as far as athletic direction are concerned. That might be what I consider the birth of big-time Tech football, getting out of that mess.
-
All of the WAC's private schools have very well-endowed athletic departments. Off the top of my head, I think Rice has something like a $50,000,000+ athletic endowment. Give TECH half that amount and can you imagine the potential?
-
Not sure if this is true, but I heard that Rice had a total university endowment of $2 billion.
-
SMU is not briming over with cash. Yes, they are much better off than we are, but they have problems, layoffs, etc. like everybody else. They can raise $55 million for the new stadium, but people don't give them $20 million a year to operate on. They need to win to attract the big $$$$.
-
The number for Rice is accurate; their endowment is somewhere north of $2,000,000,000.00. As for SMU, you won't find them on street corners selling pencils anytime soon...their endowment, while not easily identified, is also north of $2,000,000,000.00 based on anecdotal evidence available at www.smu.edu. Tulsa's endowment is not nearly as fat as the Texas schools but is purported to be in excess of $1,000,000,000.00.
