Quite honestly our "BIG" games are the WAC games. Everyone knows we don't have the coaching know how from A to Z, the depth and quality of players, and the fan base to seriously compete with the more powerful BCS teams. What we need to do as we've already done once is to win the WAC over and over and over again. We are laying the foundation it just takes a long time and a lot of bricks to build a building of strength and durability.

You are correct about Tech needing to win the WAC again. No argument here.

However, it's wins over BCS teams that will grow TECH's fan base. Consistent wins over such teams as Texas A&M, LSU, Miami and Arkansas, etc.. will have a more positive impact on our program's growth and success than multiple WAC championships will. That's not a criticsm of the WAC, it's just a fact. We need both.

It all starts with fan support. We have got to find a way to sell-out JAS every game. Then we can generate some money for the program, improve the facilities, and pay our coaching staff competitive salaries.
It's a catch 22. If we schedule teams that we can beat (not the lose to anybody, anywhere, anytime mentality), then we won't make enough money to survive. But we will have more fans at the games.
If we schedule teams to make money, then we won't have fans because we get drummed.

The lack of corporate support of Tech football is key. Schools make money off of suites and boxes. Even if we had them, we couldn't fill them.

Therefore, the only solution is to get the administration to pay big bucks for a coach who has a jaded past, bring in a bunch of crack addict players, and lower the admission requirements to the school. (Miami... Here we come!)

I really don't think it has anything to do with wins and losses. I think we need a better atmosphere in Ruston. For some reason, the Shreveport atmosphere seems like the big time, but the Ruston atmosphere seems like high school football.

I don't think the only reason is number of fans either. The big stadium, the dining before the game, the tailgating area, and of course, the jumbotron all make for a better atmosphere.

LSU will sell 70,000 tickets regardless of how many wins or losses they have. Half the people in the stands (dates, sororities, spouses, etc...) couldn't tell you who won the game when the game is over. They simply go because it is the thing to do in the fall on a Saturday night.

I don't know how we are going to make Louisiana Tech football become the thing to do for north Louisiana residents on Saturday nights, but this is what Tech has to do to become a big-time college football program.

I do know that we need a better propaganda machine. We need to have Louisiana Tech in people's faces all the time. We need help from the newspapers, the radio, and television. All of these media sources are very small-time in the Tech area. We are treated as equals with the local high school teams! I know that football is just as big in north Louisiana as it is in south Louisiana. I don't think the average football fan in north Louisiana has any idea how much more exciting a Tech game is than their local high school team.

You guys make it sound like our program is in the shitter. I still don't know what you guys think the problem here is. Bad coaching, nobody's stepping up and we have bad attendance.

What is the real problem here?

Oh and by the way, saying we can't beat big teams because we have bad attendance is a really poor agrument.

If you were being recruited by Texas A&M and Louisiana Tech and you went on your official visits, and you attended the Louisiana Tech vs Tulsa game in JAS, and you visited the Texas A&M vs Texas game in Kyle Field, which school would want to go to?

If Texas A&M took you around campus and showed you all the brand new buildings going up all over the place and the indoor football facilities for the rainy days. And then you go to Tech and they show you the practice field and the new Karl Malone weight room, which school would you want to go to?

It starts with attendance. Attendance brings excitement and money. Money brings better facilities (not that ours are bad, they just don't compare with Texas A&M's, Penn State's, and Clemson's). The attendance (excitement), the money, and the facilities brings the best recruits. The best recruits bring wins over BCS teams.

We are in way over our heads with these programs. It is remarkable that we have been as successful as we have been.
