Here are some things to take in:
Fresno is 2-3, but of the 3 losses, only Oregon State
made them look bad and that was a revenge game. They
lost to Oregon on a late TD run with a minute to go
and they lost to Wisconsin on a late field goal.
These were ranked teams. Their wins were San Diego
State and Rice. Even though they are 2-3, they are a
dang good team.
Nevada is a dang good team. They beat BYU and had a
good lead over Colorado State before the Rams came
back and won it late. Their QB averages about 350
yards and 3 or 4 TDs every game and throws 1 or no
picks. They are a dang good team. They also beat
Rice.
Rice is winless and a 5 point dog to the Dawgs on
Saturday. They started the season ugly losing to
Houston but lead Michigan State 10-7 at the half and
only lost to Nevada by 10 and Fresno by 4. Remember
that those are all dang good teams. Rice is hungry
for a win and playing at Reliant, which I am sure is
an attendance and money move. They WILL BE UP for
this one.
Do you think Tech could hold both Fresno and Nevada to
31 and Michigan State to 27? Of course not. Michigan
State has a WR that is a Heisman candidate. Now the
Dawgs could come out fired up and paste Rice, but the
option is liable to confuse the Dawg D and Rice is
liable to win. As a matter of fact, I will take Rice
+5 with anybody that wants to. DO NOT BE
SHOCKED IF TECH LOSES, BECAUSE IT IS PROBABLY GOING TO
HAPPEN.
The Dawgs will probably go 3-4 the rest of the way
losing to Boise, Fresno, Nevada, and Rice. Currently
2-3, that means that the Dawgs will go 5-7. Even if
they beat Rice that is 6-6. A winning record would
surprise me. A WAC title or a bowl is a stupid pipe
dream. I am not trying to be a pessimist, just a
realist.
