DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference Board of Directors today approved Fresno, Calif., as the site of the 2004 WAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Board is comprised of the presidents from the 10 WAC schools.

The 2004 tournament will be played in Fresno State’s brand new on-campus Save Mart Center that is scheduled to open for the 2003-04 basketball season. The $103 million facility will seat 16,000 for basketball games. The tournament will consist of all 10 men’s and women’s teams and will be played over a five-day period in March. Fresno State has hosted the WAC Tournament before when it won the championship at Selland Arena in 2000.

“We are looking forward to having our 2004 tournament at the Save Mart Center and being a part of its first-year celebration,” said WAC Commissioner Karl Benson. “The fan support we received in Fresno for the WAC Tournament in 2000 was tremendous. We hope the excitement generated for this tournament will be even better.”

This year’s tournament will again be held in Tulsa at the Donald W. Reynolds Center, March 11-15, 2003.
