Tech's Ford Suffers Ankle Injury; Questionable for Sunday
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - As if Louisiana Tech head coach Kurt Budke didn't have enough to worry about entering Sunday's contest against No. 7 Texas Tech, the first year Lady Techsters mentor must now contend with the possibility that senior center Cheryl Ford might miss the game.
Ford, the 2002 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year, suffered a sprained left ankle Thursday evening in the final few minutes of the Lady Techsters workout at the Thomas Assembly Center. The Summerfield, La., native sprained the ankle when she landed awkwardly on teammate Tamaka Clay's foot during drills.
Budke said Ford, who was noticeably limping during the team's trip to Knoxville on Friday, is questionable for Sunday's 11:30 a.m. tip-off against the Lady Raiders at Thompson-Boling Arena in a nationally-televised game on espn2.
"Obviously, you can't lose the Western Athletic Conference player of the year and not feel the loss," Budke said. "We still have almost 48 hours for her to get to the point where she can play on Sunday. Our training staff is doing everything possible to get her ready."
Ford enters her senior season on the heels of a stellar junior campaign that saw her average 11.3 points and 8.7 rebounds a contest. The 6-foot-3-inch Ford has already been named a preseason honorable mention all-American in numerous publications.
Budke said if Ford isn't able to play on Sunday then junior college transfer Amisha Cater would start in her place.

Not good...
Anyone know anything about the Amisha?

I saw Ford last night at the Summerfield game in Simsboro. She was hopping pretty good. Didnt look good

Carter resembles Cheryl so much out on the court. A couple of times I was watching her on the court and found myself rooting for Cheryl when it really was Amisha. The main difference is Cheryl is an inch taller and she is much more broad shouldered than Carter.
As far as Carter's play in Wednesday's game, she was up and down. She needs to be more agressive on the defensive end, but she showed a few low post moves on offense. She just needs to grab the ball a bit stronger on the rebound. You could tell she was a juco rather than a green high schooler. She will see plenty of minutes this season.

I sure hope Cheryl can play, but we can't take too many chances with her ankle either.
This is more of a pivotal game than some realize. This is one of only two top 10 teams we will face this year.

If it weren't for bad luck. We've already had 2 girls go down with injuries. Any word when they'll be back? Anyone heard how long Cheryl will be out.

Sultra Harding, who was one of the first two girls hurt, played in the game on Wednesday. She looked a bit rusty. Kursh is out until mid December...

Looks like Cheryl will play. I wouldn't expect her to be at full speed, though.

If Cheryl wasn't at full speed today, she'll win the Naismith Player of The Year award when she gets 100% healthy!!! 24 points and 15 boards, most on the offensive glass. She was dominant today... That is what she will have to do if we are successful this season. Last season she was big, but only against WAC schools. This season she has to play big against the big schools. She certainly did that today...
Techsters Win... Techsters Win... Techsters Win...

You are exactly right localdawg! She was awesome today.
