Slowly but surely Burroughs and Fouts are returning to form of 2023’s bad year of repeatedly playing incapable players and not coaching how to pitch. Gaspard may even get in on it before much longer. We’ll see. Remember last year how hard Burroughs tried to make Berch, Drost, and Safford play baseball while they respectively batted .235, .205 & .208. Well fast forward to 2024 and Burroughs’ right field fiasco of sticking with these same veteran players in rotation who are now batting .100, .174 & .130. Meanwhile in their very limited opportunities Comeaux and Evans are batting .286 & .353. And then there’s nobody else even stepping on the field. In baseballology it’s stupidly simple that Burroughs really needs to bench his right field fantasy and get all about the business of playing players who can play the game and start to develop them for the future. Baseballology wise Fouts shouldn’t have even been back this year, but he is and he’s beginning to ruin the Dawgs’ pitching again and in exactly the same way he did last year. It begins with his terrible in game pitch calling. Fouts wants his pitchers to pitch too fine a line high, low, inside & outside and for most of them they just aren’t that accurate in their locations. The more they miss the less confident they get and they miss even more. If you see solid good college pitching it’s more about throwing strikes at different speeds than trying to always nibble around the plate. Nibbling also allows umpires to jack with teams in the balls and strikes they call. If the pitcher are “allowed” to throw down the middle with some ball movement and changed speeds they’ll get mishit balls and fielding outs. Walking or hitting batters like Tech is doing more and more now after all the bad coaching direction their getting obviously isn’t what should be happening. Here’s a baseballology thought, how about Burroughs and Fouts change their approach to baseball fundamental things so the team can change the failing outcome of games. If they’d give their capable players a realistic opportunity to succeed chances are they will. Enough is enough already! A baseballology 101 approach to the game and this team has a chance to be respectable, otherwise it’s likely to look 2023 ugly again. Yeah I know after a 12-0 start it’s going to take a lot of backsliding to get under .500, but don’t think that repeated bad coaching can’t do it because it absolutely can.
We get outcoached by coaches who coach as little as possible. We over coach. Just let the guys play. Trust your pitcher to throw strikes and make the play in the field.
My son tends to over analyze every golf shot. When he trusts his swing and grips it and rips it, more often than not good things happen.
Last 4 games have been atrocious -
People will want to write it off as a mid-week game, I just can't do that
Greg Goff valued mid-weeks as much as anyone I've ever seen, Lane Burroughs not so much
The Train has blown a boiler
Really questioning making the 40 minute drive tonight to watch them get gutted by the Cajuns
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
Some longed for the glory days of the State Fair matchup. Well, we are officially peers in every way with NSU. We have their coaches, their leadership, and soon maybe their student population.
They were bad last year, more because of coaching decisions made before the game (playing certain players), and during the game- he can't manage a game in real time, but I bet he has great insights watching the tape We didn't address the real problem because he is still driving the train, so now the boiler is blown, and he is headed straight for the bridge that's out.
Burroughs, Foust and Safford are all on their A games tonight. This team is sad.
Oh, I get it, LB is resting our real pitching staff, saving them for conference games, eh. Very clever. Because there is no way this can be our actual pitchers, no way.
Or our hitting. We’ve got 3 hits to their 10 and please don’t have any runners in scoring position because we’ll strike out.
LB going with Safford tonight - 2 official AB and 2 k’s.
Is Burroughs secretly betting against his team?
No, he’s just seriously baseball stupid. Meanwhile Comeaux bats for Safford and goes 1-2 with a solid single.
Burroughs is like the stubborn old farts in Moneyball who get everything wrong and are ok with it because “it’s baseball”.
I honestly believe our players could win 4-5 extra games if he set the best lineup and then went to the locker room. Maybe more.
LB seems to be a players coach. As in they like him for some reason.
But watching his pitchers play is painful.
He’s definitely not Goff or Ostrander who built this program.
