Hughes Asks Catholics To Pray For President Bush, Iraqi Civilians More Stories

    03-21-2003 05:50:AM
(New Orleans, LA) -- The head of the New Orleans archdiocese is asking Louisianans to pray for the safety of civilians and troops during the U.S. military campaign in Iraq. Archbishop Alfred Hughes made the plea in an announcement released Thursday, also asking that his followers not second-guess President Bush. Hughes's statement comes as the military conflict escalates, requiring many local troops to be deployed overseas.

I could take the war comments of the Pope somewhat serious if he would have been as QUICK and as HARD on the Catholic Priest child molesters and kiddy porn lovers as well as the cover ups that followed by the Catholic Church. This has been a very interesting comparrison to me. Just a thought.

That is a good point, Tyler. He should be as adamantly opposed to molesting children as to killing people. Speaking against both would appear to be his duty. Every bureacracy has its good-old-boy network, unfortunately, and one of the above was too close to home for him.

OK>>I will try and add some levity to this thread as well. I do not think it will offend anybody on BB&B. At least I hope not.

    >John Smith was the only Protestant to move into a large Catholic
    >neighborhood.
    >
    >On the first Friday of Lent, John was outside grilling a big juicy steak on his grill.
    >
    >Meanwhile, all of his neighbors were eating cold tuna fish for supper.
    >This went on each Friday of Lent.
    >
    >On the last Friday of Lent, the neighborhood men got together and
    >decided that something had to be done about John.
    >
    >He was tempting them to eat meat each Friday of Lent, and they couldn't
    >take it anymore.
    >
    >They decided to try and convert John to be a Catholic.
    >
    >They went over and talked to him and were so happy that he decided to
    >join all of his neighbors and become a Catholic.
    >
    >They took him to Church, and the Priest sprinkled some water over him,
    >and said,
    >"You were born a Baptist, you were raised a Baptist, and now you are a
    >Catholic."
    >
    >The men were so relieved, now their biggest Lenten temptation was
    >resolved.
    >
    >The next year's Lenten season rolled around. The first Friday of Lent came, and just at supper time, when the neighborhood was sitting down to their cold tuna fish dinner, came the wafting smell of steak cooking on a grill.
    >
    >The neighborhood men could not believe their noses! WHAT WAS GOING ON?
    >
    >They called each other up and decided to meet in John's yard to see if
    >he had forgotten it was the first Friday of Lent.
    >
    >The group arrived just in time to see John standing over his grill with
    >a small pitcher of water.
    >
    >He was sprinkling some water over his steak on the grill, saying, "You
    >were born a cow, you were raised a cow, and now you are a fish."

Champ967, when I find occasion to agree with Tyler, you call my comment tacky.
Tyler, that is an outstanding joke. I suspect even the Pope would laugh at it.
I wonder how it translates into the Polish language?

It doesn't really matter because the Polish wouldn't get it! Besides, they tried eating fish and found that the scales and bones were a tad tough to shallow.

TACKY, I can accept most of the time. However, if insulting, I would appologize ops: . Most of mine above are just jokes. The child molester/kiddy porn comments I stand by. NO EXCUSES on the long overdue reactions and lack thereof by the title of this thread and his staff. OK, time to find another "joke of the day" .

Great joke Tyler! I have actually heard it before. It was told by a priest during mass one Sunday.
