RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech won its fifth straight home game with a 6-5 extra inning victory over Hawaii in Western Athletic Conference baseball action on Thursday night.

Kyle Humphreys produced a bases load single with no outs in the tenth inning to give Tech the win.

Wade Robinson led off the inning with a triple high off the wall in left-center field. The Rainbows then walked the next two batters intentionally to set the state for Humprheys' game winning hit.

Matt Varner (3-5) picked up the win for Tech pitching 2/3 of an inning; striking out both batters he faced in the top of the tenth to spoil a Rainbow rally.

Rich Olsen (2-2) picked up the loss for Hawaii, allowing one run in three innings of work.

The Bulldogs (11-21-1, 4-9 WAC) rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to take a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a three run home run by Humphreys who tied a career high with four RBIs in the contest.

Hawaii (18-18, 1-12 WAC) came back to score two in the top of the seventh with a bit of good fortune. With runners on second and third with two outs, Brent Cook hit a ground ball down the first base line that hit the base and went past Humphreys into right field to score two runs and tie the game at 5-5.

A leadoff home run in the third inning by Kyle Spangler gave Louisiana Tech its first run of the night.

The Bulldogs added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jody Wood delivered a two-out single to score Spangler from second base and cut the Hawaii lead to 3-2.

Hawaii scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. Andrew Sandsaver picked up both RBIs in the inning when he laced a one-out double to centerfield scoring two runs.

The Rainbows added another run in the top of the second inning when Tim Montgomery hit the first pitch of the inning over the right-center field wall to give the Rainbows a 3-0 lead.

Jody Wood had three hits in the game for Tech while Cook posted three hits and two RBI for Hawaii.

Jon Lockwood pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing five runs and striking out five.
Jason Schneider came in to provide solid relief with 2 2/3 scoreless innings for the Bulldogs.

The teams continue the series on Friday at 6 p.m. Tech is expected to send Adam Kirkendall to the mound opposed by Ricky Bauer of Hawaii.
