When I saw the name of the thread, I thought it was about the new hamburger joint opened up next to Anthony's by the owners of Anthony's. I think it is Daddy O's or something like that. What is offers is just the opposite of the XXX joint. It has old short play singles hanging by strings from the ceiling, there are posters from movies of the 50's, they play songs of the 50's and it has menu items named after 50's movie and tv characters; e.g., a corndog is called a Potsie. It is a really unique place, and I hope that the city supports it.
As for our XXX house, I've still yet to see it, but it has created quite a stir. I cannot imagine an x-rated video store making it in Ruston. Even if I were so inclined, I would not go in the store for fear of others in the community seeing me. I know others have to feel the same. There is another XXX store a few miles up the road to take care of the interstate traffic. Instead of making a huge fuss about all of this, and bringing free publicity to this so called business, I prefer to just let it die a slow death. My partner apparently disagrees and wants to actively get rid of it.
In any event, let's focus on the positive. We have a new, family oriented business in town, and I hope we support that and keep it in business, and let the trash die for lack of patronage.
Us former Civil Engineering students will recognize its location. It is currently residing in the old Trenchless Technology Center (TTC). I myself spent MANY latenight hours there, but I wasn't looking at porn or trying to pick up bikers. I helped build two concrete canoes in that building. It's kinda sad to see it there, in a place of prominence on the entrance of the town in all its pink glory. Yes I said pink. They painted the TTC pink.
HOWEVER, if they followed all the appropriate steps in securing the business and have all the requisite permits, I don't know how they can be stopped as long as they are not doing anything illegal. Ruston, I feel, has only themselves to blame. By not annexing that prime real estate when they had the opportunity, they basically ceded it to Grambling and put themselves at the mercy of what Grambling wants to do. It's quite a coup for Grambling because they get the rather lucrative tax receipts from the "undesirable" businesses while having it in Ruston's backyard.
Furthermore, I wouldn't count these guys out (unfortunately). If I were one of these pastors making hay, I wouldn't be too surprised when I found out a few of my members were helping keeping these guys open.
I try to stay open-minded and libertarian about these things, I just wish they had chosen a different location than the front gate to the town. If they had located on S. Barnett Springs, I never would've cared one way or another.
Just like any other business in Ruston, if the owner supports Tech, I'll consider patronizing it next time I'm in town.
I can see the ad now, on the back page of the football program as well as the offical sponsor of the 3th quarter of every radio broadcast.
I can see it too:Originally Posted by olddog75

COULD WE GET ONE OF THOSE ""STICKY"" SYMBOLS AND POST HEADLINE FOR THIS THREAD   :P
The sad thing is, we all know that Tech would turn down the advertising dollars because of the "principle of the situation"

The funny thing is that there has been a store like that in Ruston for sometime and no one has said a thing about it. I think that if they shut one of them down then they need to shut the other one down also. The only difference between them is one does not advertise it where the other one does. Not saying that I agree with what they do or sell, but if you shut one down then I think that it is only fair to shut the other one down also.
