News Release just Posted: Walker, Humphreys lift Tech to Extra Inning Win over
McNeese State
RUSTON, La. - A Jeff Walker RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th
inning capped a dramatic 9-8 come-from-behind victory for Louisiana Tech over
McNeese State on Wednesday evening at J.C. Love Field.
Walker’s single scored Antonio Sabatini from second base, who reached on an
infield single to lead off the inning.
The Bulldog (14-28-1) win would not have been possible if not for a three-run
home run by Kyle Humphreys with two outs in the ninth inning that tied the score
at 8-8.
Mitch Tucker (3-4) picked up the victory, pitching the final 1 2/3 for Tech,
allowing just one hit.
Rhett Gulledge (5-3) suffered the loss for the Cowboys allowing four runs on
five hits in 1 2/3 innings.
The win is Tech’s seventh in its last eight games at home as the Bulldogs
improved their home record to 11-7.
After Humphreys hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to give
the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead, McNeese State (23-23) posted five runs in the fourth
inning to take a 5-3 advantage.
Tech chipped away at the Cowboy lead with two runs in the seventh inning. The
Bulldogs loaded the bases with no outs and scored two runs. The first scored on
a sacrifice fly by Walker and the Bulldogs’ fifth run of the night scored when
Jody Wood reached on an infield single.
In the ninth inning, Brandon Haygood led off with his third hit of the game and
with two outs Wood had another infield single to bring Humphreys to the plate.
The tenth inning was started when Sabatini reached on an infield single. Mims
Boyce followed with a sacrifice bunt. After a Adam Dodson strikeout, Haygood was
intentionally walked to bring Walker to the plate. The junior lined the
game-winner down the right field line to score the winning run without a throw.
Brad Chedister started on the mound for Tech with Jason Schneider, Jon Lockwood
and Tucker appearing in relief.
Humphreys set a career high with five RBIs with his two home run effort.
The Cowboys used seven pitchers in the game.
Dooley Prince and Tim Lemke both had two hits for McNeese State.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday when Tech plays host to Fresno State in
the first game of a three game Western Athletic Conference series at 6 p.m.
