News Release just Posted: Kidd Dorm Demolition to Start Soon
RUSTON -- Demolition procedures for Louisiana Tech's Kidd Residence Hall will begin Monday with the placing of protective fencing around the site, followed by the disposing of remaining contents and loose materials.
Actual demolition of the building itself will come later, with the university being given 48 hours prior notice.
Jerry Drewett, Tech vice president for administrative services, said university officials have met with representatives from the Louisiana Office of Facility Planning and Control as well as H&W Demolition of Bossier City. H&W was awarded the demolition contract for $161,324.
Plans to demolish Kidd Hall began a year and a half ago, Drewett said, when it was determined that the cost to repair the structure's exterior shell exceeded the value of the building.
Initially, parking between the Early Childhood Education Center and Kidd Hall will be prohibited, Drewett said. After spring quarter classes end May 23, additional parking spaces between the center and Kidd will be blocked until the project is completed.
Duration of the demolition and site restoration has not been defined, Drewett said, but work will be completed before the beginning of fall quarter. The Kidd Hall site will become "green space" until future development plans have been finalized, he added. For the latest Louisiana Tech University News, visit www.zlatech.com
