State University Student Fees Likely To Increase

(Baton Rouge, LA) -- The cost of public education in Louisiana could soon increase, after a state Senate committee approved a bill Tuesday that would raise student fees at public universities. The Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee passed a bill onto the full Senate that requires students taking 12 or more hours to pay a $120 fee. The measure must first be approved in the full Senate and House before going to Governor Mike Foster for his signature.
This shouldn't hurt Tech too much, should it. If I remember correctly, 9 hours is full time on our quarter system. Do any of you think this will help get some students? I don't know that 240 a year is enough to deter some students from going to other universities and a student at Tech could quite possibly end up having to pay 360 more a year if they take 12 hours or more a quarter and that doesn't include the summer.

I would assume that for Tech they would alter it to apply to the quarter system. Probably just write it as "12 hours per semester, or 8 hours per quarter." Or say something like "if you are taking classes that would give you an average of 24 hours per year" or something. Maybe not though. Just guessing.

8 semester hours is considered full-time at Tech and the fee would likely be adjusted to $80 per quarter. That way two semesters or three quarters would both have a $240 additional fee.
