Interesting reading. There is another site at collegesportsinfo.com that I think you might be aware of that has a very active forum on conference realignments. There is one editorial on there that gives a break down of all of the non bcs teams. ie: La Tech -Doesn't offer much of a market, but has decent programs and facilities. Likely remain in WAC. ULM - Doomed. They might be out of 1A football by 2005. Fresno State - As good as gone . . . . San Jose State - Could lose 1A status in 2005. I have also read things on there like "the former SWC teams have no desire to play the ulalas, La Tech's, Ark State's etc of the world." There is also an editorial suggesting that after the MWC raids the WAC of Hawaii, Boise, and Fresno, that the WAC will turn to the Sunbelt to replenish the league. Of course there is also a scenario that shows the new CUSA as follows: WEST - TCU, SMU, UTEP, Houston, Rice, Tulsa EAST - Tulane, La Tech, USM, UAB, So Fla, E Car. It all makes interesting reading.

There is little doubt Cincinatti and Louisville are gone from CUSA, as well as basketball schools DePaul and Marquett.
These 4 drive a lot of the television contracts CUSA had. Let me say, "had". The CUSA television contracts do not have to be honored when the teams leave. Rest assured that the contract they get afterwards won't come near the one of the past. This is where teams left in CUSA that look at the whole picture, won't see any added benefit to remaining in CUSA if there is a better offer and mix.
Noticed where WAC postponed contract renewal with ESPN for next 3 years, until later in September (doesn't effect this season) in order to possibly bargain with a new mix.
I don't see any money difference with what will be left of CUSA versus WAC. In other words, the theories of an E-WAC and a W-CUSA is a wash. Is there a material difference maker or is it just who adds teams to E-WAC or W-CUSA first?

It's the same type of things that Fresno State and SMU fans were saying about us 4 years ago when we were WAC candidates. And furthermore, I wouldn't expect that TCU fans would be happy about returning to the WAC. It would cause them to lose face because it would be like an admission that they made a mistake the first time. Plus, they would have had to pay two exit penalties and two entrance fees to essentially wind up in the same place.

It will turn out for the best.
