RUSTON, La. - Several former Louisiana Tech baseball players recently completed their seasons in pro baseball and a pair received post-season honors.

Shortstop Wade Robinson was named most valuable player of the Tri-City ValleyCats (A) in the Houston Astros organization. The Bastrop native hit .306 with three home runs and 29 RBIs in the New York Penn League.

Robinson was recognized by the Astros in a pre-game ceremony at Minute Maid Park on Saturday.

Former Bulldog pitcher Lee Gwaltney just completed his second season of pro baseball in the Philadelphia Phillies organization and has been selected to take part in the Florida Instructional League. The league gives organizations to work with younger prospects on a more individual basis.

The right-handed pitcher spent this season with the Lakewood (N.J.) Blue Claws of the South Atlantic League. Gwaltney posted an 8-8 mark in 117 2/3 innings with a 3.06 earned run average. The Aledo, Texas native also struck out 72 while giving up just 92 hits on the year.

Casey Blalock was on the same pitching staff at Tech as Gwaltney and also finished a solid season in the Florida Marlins organization.

Blalock split time between Greensboro (N.C) of the South Atlantic League and Jupiter (Fla.) of the Florida State League.

He posted a 6-3 mark with 19 saves to go with an earned run average of 1.67.

The Marshall, Texas native walked just 16 batters while striking out 76 in 70 innings of action. Blalock did not allow a home run on the season.
