There will be no CUSA invite coming to Ruston no matter what UCF/TCU does.

WW is to meet with Tech administrators this week. Tech is set to resign from the WAC and join the Sunbelt effective 2005.

Without SMU, RICE and TU there is no reason for Tech to hang on to the WAC.

Are you certain? Where are you getting your info from?

There is no reason to throw in the towel just yet. Of course, Tech is better off in the Sun Belt if the WAC disintegrates. But I would think, if the Big East raids any deeper into Conference USA, the possibility of inviting Tech has to at least cross their minds. I think Tech can at least become what Southern Miss has become with some help from the increased competition and revenue that C-USA membership would bring.

They seem so focused on basketball and market size, they aren't even looking at anything else. It's ridiculous.

Jet, we are not on their short list. It is just as simple as that. the Big East would have to take almost ALL of CUSA for us to get an invite.

Our admins have likely exhausted every avenue. You don't just give up on this until $$$ and logic tells you that you have no choice or you are staring 1-AA in the face.

We are not exactly the most loved university in the US. CUSA knows adding us means losses and a difficult travel destination with no TV sets. Adding the other schools is MUCH safer. Higher budgets. Big cities for TV exposure. Easy travel destinations on the budget and finally, WINS. We offer ... well ... nothing, other than a loss.

Performance on the field means squat. I have a feeling we haven't seen the end of the teams out west. The SBC needs to get to 12 if possible becuase we may lose some to requirements (I doubt it) ... eventually we need to split into two conferences when FIU, FAU, FAMU, Portland State and Montana or whoever ... move up. We will cross that bridge later.

Time to pull a Marshall and drop the big boys (not all, but some) from the schedule. We need wins to build fan support. That was our mistake. The time to build a program like KSU and FSU is LONG gone. The Marshall plan is the way to go. If we dominate the Belt, we will get what we need.

    We need to dominate though.

FIM, are you sure your source is not telling you that WW and Oakes are simply meeting? Just because they are meeting does not mean that an invitation will be extended and accepted on that day.

I have no doubt that Jim is trying to secure a contingency plan by meeting with WW. But just because he's in Ruston does not mean we are not going to CUSA.

Unless some major changes happen, Louisiana Tech will not join CUSA. They simply do not want us and we are not on their radar. Who can blame them?

Ah, I see. He is probably just coming to Ruston to get us to join the Belt. I would not take that as raising the white flag just yet.

However, I can see the following conversation between JO and DR:

DR: Jim, how much is it going to cost if CUSA gives us an invite?
JO: Well, DR, it will cost us $$ million to join CUSA and $$ thousand to get out of the WAC.
DR: Heaven to betsy! We can not afford that Jim! Call Waters. Let's join the Belt again.

They may be just meeting or it may be true that we are heading back to the belt.

BUT, I'll wait until it is officially announced and then have a good cry.

If you join the Sun Belt, there is no alternative. I do see ya'll dominating that conference though. At this point, only North Texas can challenge ya'll from that league.

What will the Mountain West do? That is the big key.If they raid the WAC or the western Sun Belt to get to 12 teams, the WAC is pretty much dead.

On the field, you guys belong in C-USA. I know you guys aren't on their "short list," but if the Big East takes UCF/USF, Marshall, and doesn't stop there, but wants to go to 12 football members, whose to say what may happen? This is not over. There will be several realignments in the coming years as things settle down.
