Good way to start, Tech 10 Nicholls 7
Nicholls is a decent team, I'll even say a "good" team. They are the best in the SLC, 27 wins overall.
SHSU up next in another important conference series.
Go Dawgs!

Bates with 12th save. Wow! What a weapon he is. DH and excellent batter.
As good as Tech’s pitching was this weekend this performance was something of a step backwards. This is no time for any backsliding. If Tech really wants to make a move conference wise and nationally then they need to sweep SHS this weekend. How about the Dawgs leave no doubt for a change. Go Dawgs!
"slow hook" almost got us last night. We never could put them away after that.
Why did he adjust the batting order from last weekend?
I think LB moved Myers back up to 6th because he's worn out Nicholls pitching, and he did again last night! The only time they retired Myers was on a hard-hit line drive to 3rd.
At least I am giving LB credit for this reasoning. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit.
As for as the game last night, Nicholls is not a bad team, and they have some very good hitters in their line-up. I was not surprised they scored some runs. Yeah, 7 is a bit much to give up, but it's just one game and remember....THAT'S BASEBALL!
Comeaux makes the play at third as he should of - Or if Furr is not out of position on an easy grounder Nation gets out of that inning with one run minimum
It's easy to blame the slow hook, but once again that left side of the infield was less than adequate
Furr did atone with his bomb and Grant had a nice hit
Havern struggled
Hooks was big when we needed him
Hubka was ok
Broderson and EB were Broderson & EB - threw a combined 22 pitches for 6 outs
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
Talked to my DBU friend some last night about CUSA baseball. They've really gotta fix their offensive struggles. He was complimentary about Tech as usual. Lotta respect for our program over there (feeling is mutual). Said the SHSU catcher may be a top 20 draft pick (so he'll be a guy to watch this weekend). We were talking about the catchers in CUSA and how good Corona is overall (DBU's is good offensively, but less so behind the plate).
In previous conversations we've talked about how anti-expansion I am for CUSA, but it sounds like DBU (who I doubt has much of a vote) would be all for Missouri State (which makes sense, since they wouldn't have to share football or basketball money with them). They have baseball history (and Missouri State is usually pretty good at baseball).
Several plays have been made at third that probably would not have been made a few weeks ago. Furr is as good as we have on short. I wish he would consider swapping our SS and 2nd base.
It’ll be interesting to see what Burroughs does when McLeod is healthy enough to play again although that may be a while yet. I’m pretty sure he’ll put him back at 3rd. The question is what does he do with Comeaux? Does Grant go back to 1st and Davis returns to RF or does Comeaux sit?
Tech 2 SHSU 0
Great pitching tonight...actually by both teams. Good job Dawgs!
DBU beat FIU 9-3 and MTSU beat WKU 16-9, so a shakeup near the top of the standings. Tomorrow's another day and this is baseball, ya know.
It was a very well played game except of course for Burroughs screwing up Safford’s at bat when he was trying to bunt Comeaux to second. At a 3-0 count Burroughs calls for Safford to take a pitch which of course is a perfectly buntable ball right down the middle of the plate to go 3-1. A pitch later it’s 3-2 so Burroughs calls off the bunt and as is typical Safford strikes out leaving Comeaux at first. It was stupid coaching, but that’s Burroughs. Go Dawgs do it on your own.
I think several SHSU players received warnings arguing balls and strikes. Strike zone may have been a little wide, but he seemed consistent.
Yes, he was consistent for the most part. Missed some both ways, but nothing like some of the others we've had. It's amazing what Bates will do to batters. His pitches work all the way across the plate and the batter thinks the ball was either outside or inside depending on which side of the plate they are on. It's like the ball is crossing the plate at a 45 degree angle. Amazing!
Clean game except for a couple of unscored errors on the left side. Our pitching was good enough to overcome them.
According to the pitch tracker computer, the ump missed exactly one and only one pitch all night, and that was the called strike three on Corona's first at bat.
Speaking of which, Corona, and Bates too, is mired in a hitting slump, but man! is he ever a great defensive catcher. Perfect throw to nail Cotton on that attempted steal. Gonna really miss Big Jorge next year.
Go Dawgs! let's win today and win the series.
Mizzou is really, really "Teching" it up big time! Watching the Missouri-Tennessee game on right now and Mizzou has literally run itself out of potentially two huge scoring innings with some of the dumbest base running I have seen in a long time. The "WTF!" look on Mizzou's coach's face is priceless.
Speaking of "Teching" it up, we sure did with that loss to Arizona in game 2. Az is now projected to be one of the Top 16 seeds in the NCAA regionals. Could have been a nice win for us...but alas we are La Tech and simply couldn't have that...
