The quote I was referring to was when the old man (something Johnson :-)) is on the top of the building looking for the new sheriff, and the church bell keeps cutting him off as he yells back "The sheriff's a n--". Then the townsman responds, "I think he said the sheriff is near...."

By far my favorite line in the movie that wasn't spoken by Gene Wilder.
