Everybody knows that Jim Oakes is well connected politically. Well, now that TCU has committed to join the MWC for 2005, it is time for Jim to pull out all the stops.

Jim, please call the new Governor of Louisiana and ask her to make a personal appearance (with you) before the CUSA presidents at their next scheduled meeting. Better than anyone, the Governor of Louisiana can tell the CUSA presidents exactly how important Louisiana Tech University is to north Louisiana, and the taxpayers of the great state of Louisiana. She can talk about Tech's strong academic initiatives, and she can explain how dedicated her administration is to seeing Louisiana Tech succeed in the future. And with two (2) Louisiana schools in CUSA, the Governor can offer her state's support to CUSA for such things as new bowl prospects (Indy?) and possibly hosting the CUSA championship football game in the Superdome.

At least that's what I would do.

Great Idea Hog! Hell, throw Shreveport in the mix as host for that championship game.

Someone who has email addresses to the idiots at the Times should point the fact out that if Tech lands in CUSA, they could have a good chance of hosting a championship game.

Heck, if we get in CUSA we/TECH needs to throw a party at Harrah's just like the recruiting bash 2 years ago! Invite Gov. Blanco, CUSA Pres. and for sure don't forget the Shreveport powers (politicos and media) to start "pressing the flesh" as DWAYNE has been saying. OK>>maybe not the Shreve guys

    Great idea HD.

On the Sheveport for a Championship idea.............

I don't see Shreveport outdoing cities like Birmingham, New Orleans, Memphis or Houston, for a possible Champ. Game.

We gotta get the Shreveport folks worked up though! We need some press and power to dangle over their heads.

Great idea on Shreveport and the Gov. pitching in to help in this matter. I hope J.O. is listening. Also, Dr. R. definitely needs to be involved BIG TIME on this.

Financially speaking, we can't afford NOT to make a significant investment in securing this invitation. I hope the administration is prepared to lay down alot of cash to lobby the standing members of C-USA. I see it in much the same way as a young bachelor winning over his desired bride. Money talks...

Exactly, boxerdog. The Administration is going to have to lobby hard now. No excuses - pull out all the stops.

By the way, in my conversation with Jim Oakes this morning, he said that Tech will NOT have to pay an "exit fee" for leaving the WAC. He said Tech WILL have to forfeit approximately $500,000 in conference revenue that WOULD HAVE been earned, but that's all. There will be no exit fee.

Jim said that forfeiting the $500K of conference revenue was EXPECTED, and that Tech would have no problem going that route. I truly got the impression that he's prepared to make the right moves.

That's all that I ask. Exhaust every avenue that could possibly influence the CUSA deciders. I can except our fate if that is done and for some reason we aren't chosen, but, I can't except a lot of "we should've called on that person" or "we could've did that instead." The govenor idea is a good one and someone should make the call.

What can we do as fans to increase our appeal and or excitment about wanting such an invite? Can we create a Tech dollar and send them to CUSA media outlets saying, the fans of LA TECH want to bring their dollars to your communities and in turn you bring LA TECH to CUSA. We need it absolutely known that we want this.
