That projected #8 seed goes along with all of the projected RPIs that have Tech finishing at around 30 (29-32 is #8 seed territory). I can't see Tech's RPI getting much better than the low to mid-20's even if everything possible goes its way. The overall weakness of Tech's OOC schedule--which becomes more apparent with each passing week--is to blame along with the loss at Rice.

I do think a #6 or #7 seed is more likely than a #8 if Tech's RPI actually does finish at around 30 with only the current two losses heading into the NCAAs. A #5 seed or higher would be a huge gift from the committee with the credentials that Tech is currently projecting to have at bracket deliberation time.

Why don't they just project us with a 16th seed...when tourny time rolls around we'll make them look like dumbasses.

Gotta love those ESPN's women "pat summit carpet munch'n club" reporters.

We will probably get a 5 seed. None of those projections are worth anything right now. They just take wild stabs at it and the committee DOES look at ranking in combination with the rpi. They just weigh rpi more heavily.

They usually figure out a way to punish us because we don't have a female coach. This year should not be any different. Hopefully as in the past, we make them look stupid.

In that past we were usually saddled with a low Top 4 seed. It has just been recently that they have been sticking up with 5's and lower. An 8 might be possible this season. That is what is going to kill us, having to go play a team like Texas IN AUSTIN.

Of course last time we did that we came out on the good end of things. Not the last time we went to Texas (that was UCSB), but the last time we went and actually PLAYED Texas.

If I recall correctly, the Lady Longhorns of UT have NEVER beaten our TECHSTERS in Austin. Maybe ever. But we have always had our mojo going on when we played them. I went to the last game we played them in Austin and we rocked their world!

I would not want to play Texas this year until later in the tournament. This is probably the best team they have had in years. They did lose to Penn State by like 30, though. hahahahaahahahaa

I think Texas has 2 wins against us -- both very early in the program. I don't know where they were. We've never lost a playoff game to them. Still, I agree with Champ here, I'd rather face them late.

#6 seeds aren't too bad now that top seeds don't necessarily host. You skip the top 8 teams, have a chance to beat a team that's vulnerable and probably ranked about with us. I'd really rather be there than a #4/5 these days. As much as the committee worships RPI, we're not likely to go any higher. Hopefully that Penn St. victory will get us about there.

Both Lady Techsters losses to Texas were in the '76-'77 season, the third year of the program. One was during the regular season at a neutral site and the other was in the AIAW Region 4 Playoffs, also at a neutral site.

Since then, TECH has defeated Texas 8 consecutive times, 7 of them in playoff situations. The only regular season game was in '82-'83 at a neutral site, probably in a tournament. TECH has won one playoff game at a neutral site (AIAW '78-'79 season), two at home (NCAA '82-'83 & '83-'84 seasons) and four at Austin (NCAA '86-'87, '87-'88, '89-'90 and '92-'93 seasons).

Information was taken from 25th Anniversary Media Guide.

The 1979 77-74 win against Texas in the AIAW Region 4 semifinals in Tulsa IMO ranks as one the five biggest wins in program history if not the biggest. That game was a national tournament elimination game since only the regional finalists qualified for the region's two tournament bids. A loss would have meant no 1979 Final Four and championship game appearance, and that could have prevented Tech from signing several players that had key roles on the 1981 and 1982 championship teams.

And if I had a choice of seeds 4 through 8, I would take 6 every time. The 6 seed can't play the 2 seed until the regional semis and the 1 seed until the regional finals. The 4, 5, 7, and 8 seeds must meet either the 1 or 2 seed earlier without a rare first or second round upset.

Frisco - Good positive spin on another potential "bull" rush from the committee.

Except that this year--unless things change drastically in the next six weeks--a #7 seed or higher WON'T be a "bull rush" from the committee. Just as last year's #5 seed also wasn't undeserved. One regular season win against Top 25 teams in each of the last two seasons simply isn't enough.

Penn State might just be top 4 before everything is said and done. If Rice comes in second and only has one more loss this season (to us) and Tenn. finishes #1 (could be in doubt without PG, though), our losses will not look so bad. Even though, we don't have enough good wins, that could kick us up a seed.
