Who is pitching Fri,Sat, and Sun for us?

Does anyone know how our pitching staff looks for this season? Starters, bullpen? Is anyone nursing any injuries at any position right now?

    Rooster,

I talked to a gentleman who sits on my row at basketball games about the intrasquad games this past weekend. He said he didn't get to attend but had talked to one of the assistant coaches. This coach told him the pitching looked "better than expected". I know this is second-hand but I trust the gentleman I spoke with. No word on rotation this coming weekend.

This story off LaTechSports.com gives a lot of detail about who will likely pitch.

Pitching Staff to Depend on New Faces
    Updated Feb 3, 2004 08:34:24

RUSTON, La. – There are 15 pitchers on the Louisiana Tech baseball roster this season with only four returning from a year ago.

The pitching staff is the biggest question mark for the Bulldog baseball squad and a large group of talented junior college transfers and freshmen will be looked to answer those questions.

“Up to now we are pretty pleased with our pitching. I like the fact our guys are throwing their curveballs and changeups for strikes and that will help us against good hitting teams,” Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux said. “Our non-conference games will determine who will be in our weekend rotation once the Western Athletic Conference schedule begins in late March.”

A pair of junior college transfers have emerged as Tech’s top two starters as the season begins on Friday against McNeese State.

“Clayton Meyer and Dustin Griggs will start the first two games of the series,” Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux said.

Meyer is a junior college transfer from Blinn College that attended high school at Victoria (Texas) Memorial High School.

“Meyer was on of the top guys at Blinn in a very good junior college conference last year,” Simoneux said. “He has a tremendous mound presence. Clayton does not throw extremely hard but is a pitcher and can get all three of his pitches over for strikes.”

Griggs attended Mississippi Delta Junior College the last two years but is a graduate of Ouachita High School in Monroe

“Griggs is a right-hander (6’5) who is from Monroe,” Simoneaux added. “His last outing was one of the top performances of any our pitchers in an intrasquad game. He threw strikes and worked at a great tempo.”

Sunday’s starter will be determined on who pitches early in the series.

“The first weekend, it could be one of five guys for the Sunday starter,” Simoneaux said. “Matt Lacy, Mitch Tucker, Ricky, Guillot, Brody Love or Chris Herron could start on Sunday depending on who we use the first two games of the series against McNeese State.”

There are six freshmen that could figure into Tech’s pitching rotation. Josh Miller, Brady Bascle, Alan Knotts, Brandon Hudson, Andrew Alsup, Blake Burns and Brody Love will all get chances to show what they can do early in the season.

“We have some guys who could go out there and pitch really well and be in the weekend rotation by the time we start conference play, ” Simoneaux added. “We plan on using nine or ten guys the first weekend to get everyone in there and see how they perform.”

Junior Jared Lamothe and senior Brad Chedister will also be looked at early in the season.

“Chedister and Lamothe are both staying in the strike zone a lot more than they were last year,” Simoneaux said.

The Bulldogs are red shirting three pitchers: freshmen Chris Raymer and Randy Waguespack along with junior college transfer Grover Allen.
