The ULaMon/Arkansas deal is similar to the one Auburn had with Alabama. For the benefit of any callow youths present, all games were played at Legion Field, Bama's home-away-from-home in Birmingham, but on a home-and-home bases. The moment Auburn finished expanding its own stadium, they cancelled the contract.

For ULaMon it's a good deal--which says a whole lot about the current state of the Indian's athletic program.

Yes, the new Arkansas-NLULM deal is very creative (and totally defeats the spirit of the NCAA rules and guidelines, but comments about this traditional rivalry of Florida-Ga.; Texas-Okla. with each alternating home and home basis is the truth. The untruth is does just one university handle ALL ticket sales and disbursements? NOT!

OK, this is the vision I have for this home game scenerio:

A few minutes prior to kickoff, the Arkansas Razorbacks take the field to a smattering of applause and an equal volume of boos. A minute or two later the PA system screams, "And now get ready for YOUR ULM IIIIIINNNNNNNNDDDDDDDIIIIIIIIAAAAAANNNNSSSSSSS!" At this point the stadium erupts, with 50,000+ rising to thier feet chanting the Indian fight song!

Don't tell ME that's not a home game.

The one thing that I would point out is that some people seem to suggest that War Memorial Stadium is a neutral site for the University of Arkansas. It is not. It is the home field. They have been playing games in that stadium since it was built more than a half century ago. In all of those games over all of those years it has never ever been anything close to neutral. This little stadium has a seating capacity of only about 53,000 but 55,000 to 56,000 Razorback faithful regularly pack in this place like sardines to root for the home team.

Even when playing Texas or LSU the Razorbacks have a tremendous home field advantage in War Memorial. Over the years many coaches and players from the old Southwest Conference and the SEC have said that they would rather play the Hogs in Fayetteville than Little Rock. Current Hog head man Houston Nutt has yet to lose a football game in War Memorial.

Any notion that outsiders may have about War Memorial Stadium not being the home field for the Hogs can just forget it. Little Rock is not just some city a couple of hundred miles away from the campus in Fayetteville. It is the capital of Arkansas and the capital of Razorback Fandom.

I suspect that a large percentage of ULM's ticket allotment will be bought up by Razorback fans. My prediction: 55,000 hog fans, maybe 500 Indian fans. A home game on paper only, but if it counts for attendance you have to give ULM credit for getting around having to put fans in Malone Stadium. Easier to play a "home game" in the capital city of another state against that state's official program than get 15k in Malone.

Border War? Probably end up something like 1846 when the United States faced off against Mexico's finest. Only thing is that Santa Anna gave Winfield Scott and Zach Taylor much more of a fight than Monroe will ever give Arkansas.
