Safford is going to deliver a key hit today, maybe a HR that proves to be the game-winner. I can just feel it .
When they score 6+ runs Liberty is practically unbeatable. In fact, I think they are unbeaten this year (I'll make a quick check on that.) Our pitching has to step up today, guys who have been so-so need to deliver some quality innings. Liberty is not a powerful offensive team; they have struggled to score runs at times. Yet, in two games here they have scored 15 runs. Time for them to settle back to their sub-4 runs per game. Our offense needs to click; stop this LOB crap. Runner on 3rd, less than two outs, no excuses, drive him in.
I posted last week as the regular season was wrapping up that being the #2 seed would be advantageous as the combo of Liberty-SHSU is better than the duo of WKU-FIU, and I said DBU would have the easier path to Sunday in that bracket. Of course, we couldn't not try to win last week. Plus we were (and probably still are) playing for that at-large berth. One projection has us as the #2 seed in the Arkansas regional. Another source has us the #2 seed in the Oklahoma regional. Well, if this is what the selection committee is thinking too, we shouldn't go from a #2 seed to completely out of the playoffs with a loss today.
But, I want to win now, today, this weekend!!! Might be great for CUSA to get three teams into the NCAAs, but that ain't happening. If it's not Tech it'll be DBU garnering the auto-bid, so, might as well be us.
In the DBU-WKU game(s) today, WKU exhausted their closer, Burns, yesterday as he pitched 3 2/3 innings and threw 60+ pitches. He won't be available for any kind of long stint today. WKU is cooked. I think WKU is just happy to have reached the semi-finals and DBU will clobber them this morning.
For the Dawgs, we can beat Liberty twice today. That's a very real possibility. I will even go as far as to say, it should happen. Last week LB came out all smug and arrogant boasting about that's how they "Tech it up" smacking down his critics. I posted he should have waited until he had checked into a hotel in Omaha to make such a statement. Losing a game to Liberty today, either one, will mean Tech lost a series to Liberty on our home field. Whoa! now that would be "Teching it up."
Go Dawgs! You can do this. Let's be playing Sunday.
