Personal opinion:
I always thought that our original intention of joining the WAC was to affiliate with some better schools and to position ourselves when the time came for conference re-allignment to find ourselves in a good, REGIONAL league.
The way things have shaken out, we have just ONE hand to play: CUSA.
That's it, boys and girls. It's reality check time! We either get the CUSA invite or we must seek membership in the Belt.
Heretofore the WAC experiment, the WAC "gamble" has paid off. Had we joined the Belt in 1999 for all sports, we would NOT even be on CUSA's radar right now. The ONLY reason we have been considered and are still holding on to that slim measure of hope, is because we are currently in the WAC.
If we miss this CUSA invite, the only logical thing to do is admit it was a nice try and join the Belt.
Why? Obviously, if we wish to be considered the next go-around we need to improve our facilities, and we need the money that is being spent on travel right now. We can not afford the WAC.
Dwayne is right. We simply do NOT have any other option.
