    Personal opinion:

I always thought that our original intention of joining the WAC was to affiliate with some better schools and to position ourselves when the time came for conference re-allignment to find ourselves in a good, REGIONAL league.

The way things have shaken out, we have just ONE hand to play: CUSA.

That's it, boys and girls. It's reality check time! We either get the CUSA invite or we must seek membership in the Belt.

Heretofore the WAC experiment, the WAC "gamble" has paid off. Had we joined the Belt in 1999 for all sports, we would NOT even be on CUSA's radar right now. The ONLY reason we have been considered and are still holding on to that slim measure of hope, is because we are currently in the WAC.

If we miss this CUSA invite, the only logical thing to do is admit it was a nice try and join the Belt.

Why? Obviously, if we wish to be considered the next go-around we need to improve our facilities, and we need the money that is being spent on travel right now. We can not afford the WAC.

Dwayne is right. We simply do NOT have any other option.

Anybody who even considers the belt as an option has already sold out.

Thankfully, it's just the know-nothing jokers on this board.

Tech has no interest in the Sun Belt in any way. There is simply no validity to any discussion which includes our name and the Sun Belt.

Simply put...the only people bringing it up do not know what they are talking about.

How does anyone think a move to the Sunbelt would result in more $ for facilities?

How many Champs members would "give up" and stop the annual donations? (I would, though not a great sum.)

I posted before that for Tech, except for geography, the WAC is the better conference to be in competition-wise (read stronger in football, basketball, women's sports, etc.)

Stay in the WAC!! If we don't get a C-USA invite this time, we will when Marshall goes crawling back to the MAC. Heck, in 3 years we may not even want to leave the WAC to go to C-USA!

Sunbelt is a step backwards! If we are going to do that, just call Nichols, SE, NW, and McNeese about moving down 1-AA and joining their conference. Is is no more destructive to do that than it is to go to the Belt.

The question is "how many new Champs donors can they get without CUSA?"

How is Tech gonna afford the travel when the nearest WAC member will be NMSU?

And, how, while doing that, will Tech fund two more sports?

And, while doing that, how will Tech make the facilities' improvements?

    Just answer those questions, please.

Will you step up to plate, Killerdawg, and provide the funding? If so, then fine, forget I brought this up.

D80, how are you going to pay for those things listed in the Sunbelt... soon to be D-1AA conference (due to attendance levels).

Hey, maybe we can get Auburn to play us in Birmingham and call it a Tech home game?

I say #1 is C-USA, #2 is stay in WAC!

even with the C-USA AD's saying they want UTEP i still think Tech has a good shot at that 12th spot. Heck it would kind of surprise me if UTEP was interested in C-USA at all.

but IF the unthinkable happens and Tech is on the outside looking it...what better option is there for Tech?

at least the dawgs would only have 1 "tough" game to get to a bowl every year (North Texas). the difference in travel costs in the WAC and the Belch is the difference between Tech fielding a competitive team or not.

Maybe Tech could try to go independentand scehdule more regional teams for home and homes. they might get lucky and have support from the texas WAC teams.

seriously guys, if Tech gets left out (and i do not think they will), is there a better alternative to eating a big ole dose of humble pie - Belch style?

Bottom line is that if you're interested in a local interest team, then the Belch is fine for Tech. For those of us that live away, it takes something more exciting for us to invest our time and $$$ to go to Ruston on a regular basis. Tech NEEDS a good regional conference of higher quality teams than the Sunbelt can provide.
