@BelinsonMatt: Lane Burroughs said Luke Nichols will start for #LATech vs Kansas State on Friday. The First Team All-CUSA selection has been Tech’s best starter all year.

I posted this elsewhere “Re: Regionals”

Of course I agree with Nichols getting the first start like I listed below.

To get down to it. All things considered I’d say this is Tech's most capable team to make it to a super regional. It’s all a matter of the team playing to its potential. It’s not possible for there to be a tougher minded bunch of guys anywhere. Our first line team are Bulldogs through and through.

Defensively, McLeod has to go back to 3rd, Comeaux is at 1st & Davis plays RF. Safford’s and Drost’s seasons are finished. If we have to put in a defensive RF it has to be Drost because of his height, reach and arm strength.

Pitching: Game 1 - Nichols (need to snap the team’s unluckiness with Luke’s Saturday starts and get him and the team a win on Friday), game 2 - Smith (more rest for Arkansas), Game 3 - Hubka.

Crider should be the 1st jam reliever Tech goes to with his curveball being practically unhittable.

Batting order should be: Davis, McConnell, Corona, Bates, Ballard, Myers, Furr, Comeaux & McLeod. I’d flip flop Corona and Bates from how they’ve been batting so the opponent’s pitching decisions don’t have the convenience of our two lefties batting back to back. From Ballard to McLeod our guys have to burn pitches, work walks, HBP and swing for singles. None of them are power hitters and absolutely shouldn’t be swinging for any fences. These guys have to grind runs across the plate. Ultimately without Safford (.198) or Drost (.184) playing there won’t be any hitless automatic outs in the Dawgs’ lineup.

Go Dawgs, be the best ever!

The big mystery with Arkansas right now is whether ace Hagen Smith will start Friday or Saturday.

I’d be surprised if they didn’t hold him for Saturday

Weather looks iffy all weekend. We decided to pass and just watch here at home. It's easy to wait around for weather delays when you are near home, but more difficult when you are already spending big on the road for tickets, fuel, food, and lodging (possibly for 3 nights). Really hate to miss it live in such a great stadium.

Nichols is our best starter, and KSU has done worse against lefties, so it makes sense that he would start. The Friday weather concerns me though. What happens if the game is suspended after 4 innings? Have we wasted Nichols?

On my weather app, it looks like the rain will be clearing up around 7. We could see a delayed start, but hopefully that’s it.

On Accuweather, it looks like game one my be pushed to after 7, so we would be pushed to Saturday morning and follow this schedule

    3. If Game 2 on Friday is cancelled . . . play Games 2, 3 and 4 on Saturday, Games 5 and 6 on Sunday, and Game 7 on Monday (if necessary). (1 – 3 – 2 – 1)

I like starting Nichols in game 1, and I suppose Hubka will get the start for game 2. Does this mean Smith is done as a starter? His last start was an anomaly, he's a LOT better than that. Perhaps his role will be long, middle-relief on our road to Omaha! Of course, he might get a Sunday (or Saturday game 2) start this weekend.

We all know pitching is our weakest point. Our everyday players, hitting and defense, is Omaha-quality, but baseball comes down to three key components:
    1) pitching
    2) pitching
    3) pitching

Doesn't mean our guys, our pitchers, can't enjoy a career-day and deliver a great performance. That's baseball! Anything can, and does, happen.

    Go Dawgs! on to Omaha!

If Coach feels like Nichols is the best option to get a win in the first day and he is confident that Smith will shake off that last appearance, which was out of left field(literally), I won’t argue. It’s true that any one of our guys can show up and throw out of their minds. Harland for one has frustrated the heck out of me, but something about his delivery or approach has been really good a few times this season. Other guys can do the same.

Dalton to right, McLeod to 3rd and Comeaux to 1st. I like it and wish that was the move the day after McLeod was released.

Harland can be effective for a short stint behind a hard throwing right hander but he should never take the mound behind another lefty and never face the order a second time through. Once he’s hit it’s more likely than not over for him.

Lineup change for #LATech tomorrow against Kansas State, per LB: Dalton Davis moves to RF, Logan McLeod starts at 3rd, Grant Comeaux moves to 1st.

"When you're in this time of year, you gotta score. We'll probably change that around tomorrow."
