    Lost Opportunity?

I was wondering if any of you guys in Ruston could tell me if Tech has a booth set up at the Peach festival to sell season tickets? If not what an incredible waste of opportunity.

We need to be selling season tickets at every festival, fair, Lions club, Rotary, and any place else that people congregate. I know that folks don't like to give up thier personal time on the weekends to work, but it is that extra effort that will make the difffernce.

I think that the players and coaches that went to Wal-Mart was a good thing. I think they need to be out at the Peach Festival, the largest gathering in Lincoln Parish every year, doing the exact same thing. Let people get to meet the players, know who they are on a personal level, and support will come.

You are exactly right. The Peach Festival definitely needs a booth. Every town in La. has some type of festival. As many as possible need to be hit. A couple of players and the coach need to be there.

Actually they don't need a player or coach. Neither would even consider doing it anyway. They need pretty girls working the booths along with Champ. Six hours maximum on a Saturday plus travel would cost Tech Athletics less than $200 for a couple of pretty girls to show up. Champ came to our festival in Rayville for expenses only for two years.

There are plans for a booth at the Peach Festival this weekend...don't know if it's "manned" by pretty girls, champs, players , coaches or what ....but I did hear there are plans for a Tech set up.

Put Bicknell in the dunking booth, that might raise a few dollars.

    Thumbs Down Re: Lost Opportunity?

Ruston's population is 20-25 thousand. We share this fan base with ULM, Tech and Grambling. How many season tickets do you guys really think we can sell? There is a ceiling here and I think we have hit it.

    Re: Lost Opportunity?

The peach festival draws around 100,000 people each year. Ruston's population is only a portion of that.

    Re: Lost Opportunity?

The peach festival does draw thousands of visitors each year. But they are only visitors. They will not be around come football season. Like I said, our fan base is very small. Thinking that one day we could have 30 season ticket holders is a dream. Sad but true................................

    Re: Lost Opportunity?

I disagree. Many of our football game attendees come from outside of Ruston (and outside of the state), just like the festival visitors.

There is a great need to market beyond 5 miles of campus. The festival is not the best way to do that, but it will not hurt.

    Re: Lost Opportunity?

EJ is right, Tedbuck. If we want to limit ourself to Ruston, we may as well be a jr. college. That would be silly. I wonder if all of lsu fans come from Baton Rouge or (well you get the picture).

Shreveport and Monroe are prime targets. Add in South Louisiana, West Mississippi, East Texas, and South Arkansas and you start to get the picture.

I drive from Tyler, Texas to the games. There are several of us here that do that. Dallas and Houston have many of our alumni, as well.

If it was only possible to get the town that the college is in to buy the tickets, Southern Miss, U or Ark., A&M, etc. would all be in huge trouble.

We need to take every opportunity to sell this program to the buyers. It can be done. We need a little product improvement, but it can be done.
