Football: Rice-Louisiana Tech Finale To Move To Reliant Stadium
11/5/2004
HOUSTON — The 2004 regular-season finale between Rice and Louisiana Tech will be played at Reliant Stadium, Rice athletic director Bobby May announced Friday.
The Owls' final football home game as a member of the Western Athletic Conference will kick off at noon (CST) on Nov. 27.
"With the University on its Thanksgiving recess, we think this is a wonderful opportunity for us to play another game in the premier football stadium in the country," said May.
"We hope that everybody that saw us in the first game of the year against Houston will decide to come back," said head coach Ken Hatfield. "To begin and end the season with wins in Reliant Stadium would be memorable for all of our 18 seniors."
The game will be the Owls' second at Reliant during the 2004 season and their fourth in the three-year history of the facility. Rice is 2-1 all-time at Reliant following the 10-7 win over Houston in this year's game for the Bayou Bucket.
Rice previously had a 37-20 win over Louisiana Tech at Reliant in 2002, the first college game ever played in the home of the NFL's Houston Texans. The Owls also played Texas at Reliant in 2003.
Tickets for the game will go on sale at the Rice athletic ticket office and through TicketMaster on Tuesday (Nov. 9). Rice season ticket holders and fans who have previously purchased tickets to the Rice-Louisiana Tech game should contact the Rice athletic ticket office at 713-522-6957 concerning the conversion of their tickets for Reliant Stadium.
