I really do not think Meyer takes or is interested in going to Notre Dame. Notre Dame is going to be a hard sell, academically they can only recruit about 30 of the top 150 players because of the academic standards at the Dame. Notre Dame fired 2 coaches in a 4 year period and Meyer has specifically said he is not interested in changing jobs unles the university that hires him has a legitimate shot at winning 10 games next year and Notre Dame is not even close on talent level to win that many with the schedule that they play.

There is only one man right now that has the talent, drive , ambition, and toughness to bring back Notre Dame football.

    NICK SABAN

It's the only challenge left that would interest a man of his ability on the collegiate level.

Problem is that his family likes BR.

    illinois = ron zook

why would tedford leave cal for stanford? seems like a step backward to me.

i also think meyer will go to florida (he allegedly met with the president there yesterday).

    Re: coaching vacancies

I suspect that Boise State's Dan Hawkins will take a MUCH better job than the Utah job. For the most part, that would be a lateral move for him.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Hawkins be interviewed for the jobs at Notre Dame, BYU, Washington and Stanford. Since Hawkins is a "west coast" guy, I expect he will end up at Stanford or Washington.

Ole Miss Isn't going to get Jimbo, he will be at U of Washington next year, Ty will take a year off and not coach, and Butch Davis will probably take the Florida job, but me thinks that Butch and Nick will do a switherooo.

This is thw way everything will shake down in the coaching ranks.

    UW- Willingham
    ND- Meyer
Utah- DC there will be promoted
    San Jose- Neuheisel
    Utah State- Tormey
    NMSU- ???
    Florida- Butch Davis
Stanford- possibly Hawkins, but highly unlikely
    ECU- Zook
    Illinois- ???
    UNLV- very quiet down there

Have forgotten all of the jobs available right now, but who cares about Indiana anyway?

    Folsom
    Jason Martin
    Univ. of Nevada

    Re: coaching vacancies

A guy in my Lab is a Utah graduate and told me today that the rumor around the Utah circles is that Meyer actually accepted the ND job yesterday and is meeting today to hash out the contract details. Not a surprise to anyone that this looks like a lock to take place.

I wish that were true. He has a clause in his contract to be let out for no charge if he goes to ND. Also, he has a strong Catholic background and is named for a former pope. I hate to see him go because I dislike ND so much. But he is probably the front runner. However, it will not be done until after their bowl game, I would guess. I do not see him jumping Utah before a historic BCS bowl for them. But who knows????

I doubt that Hawkins goes anywhere that is not a BCS school. He can afford to wait his turn. If he does not get an offer he likes this year, he can come back and wax the WAC again next year and see what opens up then. He is making some 500K a year at Boise, so he is doing OK dollarwise.
