But regardless of his arm strength -- if Luke doesn't learn to step up in the pocket and throw with some authority, he will never succeed in the NFL. This was the first time I've personally seen him play for the Browns, and it appeared to me that Luke hasn't changed one bit from his time at Tech. A lot of his throws were off his back foot (no mustard on the ball), he still locks onto one receiver (#86 in the case of last night's game), tries to force passes to covered receivers, and he still bails out of the pocket way too soon.
He really needs a good QB coach to teach him how to be a pocket passer -- take his 3, 5 or 7-step drop while making his read, make a decision, step up and throw with authority. Making his reads/going through his progression and his decision-making should improve with time and repetition. His footwork and throwing, however, should not be lagging like they are. Those are things he should have learned his first year at Tech (if he didn't already know them from high school). Hopefully he gets some good coaching in Cleveland and has a good career. I wish him luck. (And I agree... the baseball cap has got to go!)
