You know, it's taken me a while to realize something about our administration. I don't think you guys give them enough credit on being current and knowldgeable on what a successful athletics program can do for student enrollment. I really believe that they know all this stuff. All the way to the top, it is known how a great football team and sports tradition will not only bring more students, but also better students. However, it will also bring more responsiblities and work. I think that is the problem. The people we have in charge have their work load and responsiblity agenda at the level they are comfortable and are able to manage without incurring unexpected incidents. If they introduce too many variables into their work and management lives, they might have to deviate from memorized schedules of daily activity which would force them to do anything extra which ain't gonna happen. Much like the teacher that has taught for 30 years and has his/her lesson plans, assignments and tests imprinted on the brain so that each day goes the same as it did for the the past 25 years.
They are comfortable and want to stay that way, so we can forget about them being interested in any articles that promote improved academics through improved athletics. I've decided all we can do is either accept our level of play or choose another team to pull for or quit following athletics altogether.
Dirty, you are about right. Those are some sad choices.
Dan doesn't want a larger enrollment as he has stated before. He would like to keep enrollment at or below 13-14K. Higher enrollment brings more problems for him to contend with. Dirty, you are on to something.
My fear is when he retires, we are going to have a carbon copy version of him on the 16th. The cycle will continue.
His presence for the past 17 years or so has set in stone a (corporate/beauracratic) culture that will take years to erase or even slightly change IF we get some ambitious new blood to lead Tech.
What Dan doesn't realize is that if our football team got the support from him in the 16th floor, he would realize what a valuable recruiting tool football could be for his beloved micro-manufacturing research program, student recruitment, overall fundraising, and general school pride.Originally Posted by Dawgbitten
