Wrong. We are losing not much and gaining about the same. I suspect UTEP, like Tulsa last year, is going to be a one trick pony.

As bad as CUSA is, Rice, SMU and Tulsa are going to be the doormats of the conference, just as they were in the WAC (OK, maybe they'll finish ahead of Tulane and ECU!)

I'm still stunned at how "electric" the atmosphere was today during the Liberty Bowl. Of course, it was practically a home game for Louisville, but the crowd was **HUGE** and very loud. This was ESPN's best bowl game so far this year.

HogDawg, "if" is being used in too many of your posts now. But you're correct on the Liberty Bowl, it was a great bowl game considering the two "mid majors" that were playing. That is, until the Iowa - LSwho and Texas - Mich games. All in all, I have watched some of the best bowl games this year that any other time that I can remember.

rcajun90, don't you know by now that anytime an outsider starts a thread on this board, people like champion110 and others of his ilk will take a seemingly honest question and turn it into venomous attack.

champion110, why the dislike for UNT. Were you rejected from our fine University at some point in your life, or is it strictly the progress we've made in athletics over the past few years that causes you to feel this depressed all the time. Is UNT a threat to La Tech in some way? No, UNT has not looked good in 3 out of 4 bowl games, but other than Cincinnati, we have played some pretty good teams. Memphis, Colorado State, Southern Miss. Not top 25 for sure, but certainly top teams as far as we are concerned. Regardless, the exposure for four years has been great for out program. But many Mean Green Fanactics like myself want to do better. Some are tiring of New Orleans and tiring of our lack of wins in OOC games. We're patiently building our facilities and re-building our fickle fan base.

As to your comment about UNT not having much respect in the state of Texas, I think you're all washed up. some people think otherwise. Currently, UNT is ranked(football) as the #5 out of 10 1A teams in Texas.
    1-Texas
    2-Texas Tech
    3-Texas A&M
    4-UTEP
    5-NT
    6-Baylor
    7-TCU
    8-SMU
    9-Houston
    10-Rice

Considering we have 10 teams, the #5 spot is not bad.

So, champion110, what's the beef with UNT?

DeepGreen, are you on DRUGS? Seriously. I've rarely seen such nonsense posted by anyone who claims to be a college graduate.

UNT's football program is NOT ranked ahead of TCU, Rice, or Houston. All three (3) of those schools play a MUCH tougher schedule than UNT does throughout the year, so ranking UNT above those schools is comical. That means UNT MIGHT rank as high as 8th out of 10 Div 1A schools in Texas. And even a #8 ranking is arguable since Big 12 member Baylor is getting stronger.

Also, the N.O. Bowl diatribe you spew is the same old tired nonense we hear every year. Every year UNT loses almost all of their non conference games and ends up running the table against the "little sisters of the blind" in Sunbelt conference play to make it to the New Orleans bowl. And UNT has now lost 75% (3 of 4) of those games.

Does any of this resonate with you?

Fact is, UNT has already PEAKED, and has NOWHERE to go. Oh sure, you MIGHT return to the New Orleans Bowl again next year, but so what? You'll lose again. At the end of the day, what have you really accomplished? The answer: NOTHING!

UNT didn't join the WAC because the Mean Green KNEW they couldn't compete against quality WAC teams each week and still obtain a winning record and make it to a bowl game. Nope, in the WAC, UNT would have to be good EVERY week. UNT officials know this feat can only be accomplished in the much weaker "Sunbelt" conference where all the conference teams are a doormat and a national joke (as evidenced by Troy's huge SVC loss to Northern Illinois).

By the way, the LSU-Iowa game was nowhere near as good as the Louisville-Boise State Liberty Bowl game. The LSU-Iowa game was a real yawner until 6 minutes remained in the game. By far, the two best bowl games to date have been the Rose Bowl and the Liberty Bowl.

USM, Tulane, Tech, SMU, Rice, Houston, ULL, Tulsa.... would be a great start. I would NOT want UNT. I know that they have been stronger in football lately, but they are thought of as a lower regional school in Texas. We need some name recognition and UNT would present an image problem. See if we could woo TCU back into the fold, as well. I would then suggest to pull in a few name bball schools that could bring some prestige in. Tulsa will help with this, but we would need more.

UTEP would be the big question. They really want out West, anyway, so I might just cut them loose. They can go back to the WAC or try to get in the MWC.

CUSA would pretty much fold. The Sun Belt would fold, as well.

    That would be AWESOME!
    Hmmmmmmmm. Image problem.

Except for the OU vs USC game, the BCS bowls will have a VERY difficult time topping this Liberty Bowl game this year.

Not even close. Lousy game for the bcsbs championship.

Yes. Big payback for the previous year's embarrassment.

The dead weight of CUSA went 6-2, 3-5, 3-5, and 2-6 in the WAC in football this year and is being replaced by teams that went 4-3 (third place), 2-5, and 2-5 (tied for last) in the Sun Belt.

Re: Is the Sunbelt killing Tech?

one day when memphis, ecu, ucf, and marshall are playing in a further watered down big east, maybe all 4 of us (tech, ull, unt, and asu) can play in cusa together:

    tulsa
    unt
    smu
    utep
    houston
    rice
    asu
    tech
    ull
    tulane
    usm

and if utep goes out west again:

    missouri st.
    tulsa
    unt
    smu
    houston
    rice
    asu
    tech
    ull
    tulane
    usm
    uab

southwestern missouri st. would change their name, move up to 1-A, and make a great travel partner with tulsa. anything to keep ulm out of the picture

USM would bolt from that scenario before you could say "snobby BigEast wannabes".
