I don't know how it sounded on the radio, but this was a very hard game to watch because we are still just an average unranked team. We did come out in the second half and play a very tenacious Techster style defense to start the half. But for the most part we stand around too much. There is very little movement without the ball and nobody going to the ball when we pick up our dribble. That is one thing that just stood out to me during the game. The other thing that stands out is that we are not the fluid machine that has defined past Techster squads. We come down the floor and think about hitting the open player, but we think about it too long and hesitate. Then we start to go to her again but hesitate again because by this time she is no longer open. We are doing way too much thinking instead of just playing and reacting. Kind of like a pitcher who is aiming the ball instead of throwing it. We did have three or four fast break plays where they showed signs of being Lady Techsters but we need a lot more of that if we are even going to make the dance this year. Our post game looked a little better but still has a long ways to go. I just hope we win the WAC tournament and keep our NCAA streak alive.

This Techster team might have to follow the successful formula of Arkansas' improbable Final Four team in the late '70's, the "four twins" and the big, slow white guy. That was Sydney Moncrief and company.

Or, something similiar to Louisville's Doctors of Dunk. Or, Jimmy V's national championship team at NC State, built around the two guards and that small forward.

Gotta put the best 5 players out there.

Yes. Thank you RHS band. You were great.

Have you ever thought, DFM, that "they [Tulsa] just couldn't hit the broad side of the barn from two feet tonite" because it's not every night they are defended by Crain and DeCiman/Kursh/Moore?

I can't wait to get a look at them in action myself, now that they are playing better. It sounds like we have the guards we need (with the addition of Erica for scoring). I do realize that we are weak in the post. However, it was VERY nice to hear Decimen come alive last night. The Tulsa radio guys were very impressed with her.

Tulsa's bread and butter is the post game. They have DOMINATED almost every team they have played. We had an excellent game plan of loosening up on the pg and doubling up on the post. THAT is great coaching and planning.

I do agree that a 4 guard line up right now might be a great way to go. That is what Rutgers played against Tennessee and came away winners. Rutgers is playing our style of basketball this year. They have extremely fast guards that are very athletic. They are hot and cold shooters, though - like us.

I would LOVE to have a Amisha Carter, Cheryl Ford, etc. on this team, but we don't have that. We need to win with what we have. Erica will bring in some offense, hopefully.

Also, I agree with LT, it sounded like we were awesome on defense last night. The Tulsa radio guys were stating that they had never seen anything like it. We will have to keep that up in order to keep winning.

This was a FANTASTIC start, though.

DeCiman/Kursh/Moore and "defended by" used in context is what most people would call an oxymoron -

There were many occasions last night when Tulsa came off a screen and the player just flat out missed the lay-up or two foot set shot or just simply dropped the pass or dribbled it off her foot -

DeCiman had 11 pts - 8 of which were in the first 4 minutes of the ballgame -

I said it when we signed her last year - she is not a talented post player and coming into last nites game was averaging less than 4 pts per game and she is supposedly 6 ft 7...

Those three played solid defense. Tulsa might have missed one or two uncontested lay ups or two foot shots all night. Their shots were continually blocked, altered, or rushed. Our defense wasn't perfect, but it was impressive. That's one of the reasons Tulsa's star big girl shouted a vulgarity when she was fouled hard on a lay up going down the stretch.
