Hell, even Mary Hardin and Linfield had EXCELLENT WRs who could catch the ball in the Div. III Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. Mebbe somebody sold bick a year's supply of "slippery" for our WR's gloves ??

Same reason he couldn't find a big SS at Junction City last year. He's too stupid and too lazy.

A SS? Why is Bick trying to recruit a shortstop? :icon_wink

Jesting aside, I think that is part of Bick's problem, he is lazy. After all, during his one shining moment in his life, Flutie's Hail Mary, what was Bick doing? That's right, laying on his lazy ass watching the play.

Okay, really placing joking aside, I do think Tech needs to get more aggressive in recruiting. Go after some of the blue chippers. At least when they are talking to other potential recruits they can say, we're building a strong team, we're recruiting [fill in the blank]. Doesn't mean we will sign that chipper, but we can say we are recruiting him.

As mentioned previously, many credit UCONN's quick rise to the signing of their QB, Orlosky (sp?). Other good recruits opted to give UCONN a try when they learned that heavily recruited QB had signed there.

We all want excellent recruits, but more importantly, (focusing on WRs for example) let's see players:
    1. Run crisp routes like the 'Acrees' of the world, (fake the DB to get seperation from him)
    2. Catch the ball before trying to run with it (are you listening Freddie King?),
    3. Not be afraid to take a wicked hit,
    4. Never stop running and assume you can't get to a long pass in time to catch it. How many times did we see Bobby Slaughter dive for overthrown passes and bring them in for incredible receptions? Conversely, how many times did we see Ahmad Harris quit running on a long pass play and have the opposing safety pick it off? I recall at least 3 of these plays to Harris in which the DB returned the pass for a TD against us.

These are coaching, effort, and execution issues.
