NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!! NYET!!!! NEIN!!!
Keep JAS au natural!!!! Save that cash and get a Jumbotron!!! (And a coach, and a plan, etc.)
There are dozens of things Tech Athletics badly needs, and this is NOT one of them!
If God had meant for college football to be played on plastic, He would not have invented GRASS!!!
It's a coming, but at a discount.
Do you ever recoup the investment through less maintenance , water , ect.....?Originally Posted by Choudawg86
If so it might be worth it. I prefer natural as well but field turf isnt nasty like astro turf.
I like grass better, if you can grow it, play on it.
We should not be investing in astroplay or astroturf, JAS needs other improvements...sound sys, scoreboard w/ video, better chairbacks, etc.
Univ Central Ark has a jumbotron outside of their business building for no frigg'n reason! Springdale, AR highschool has one for their stadium, it's a HS. Why can't we get one for our football stadium?
I don't know, but Don Shows sure convinced the Ouachita Parish School Board it would save $'s. I must say, the West Monroe field looks SHARP and is definitely something to be proud of.Originally Posted by Bigdog13
Ya know, I would think there would have to be some kind of maintenance contract with the group installing the turf.
A sharp field helps in recruiting. Get it now!
it's a waste of money i think, invest in something else pls, we need to hire better coaches.Originally Posted by lsuhater
i wonder if we do get this new turf, how would it be installed...will we keep the grass on the south endzone hill and north endzone empty space area...with field turf in the middle?
Have been very opposed to turf for a number of years, but I wouldn't mind as long as it is the state-of-the-art product that has come out recently (the kind with the black rubber "sand" that flies up on slow-motion replays). Supposedly, players like these new turf fields.
If on the other hand it is that crap that used to grace the likes of Veteran's Stadium and Riverfront Stadium, then we might as well just count on several knee injuries every year. Never forget seeing Wendell Davis blow out both his knees in Philadelphia after jumping for a pass. His legs just flew out from under him. He never played another down.
I think this, plus a Jumbotrom are coming. The wait was whether the expenses were to be charged to the athletic department's budget or capital improvements. The money for the Jumbotrom was guaranteed by the student fees, I believe. Someone with more knowledge of our current situation should comment. My information is from last May when I was last in the AD's office.

It will be an improvement and we need every improvement to facilities we can get at this point so I won't complain. I hope we paint it up better than we do our field. I would love to see us paint the end zones blue with TECH spelled out in big letters like LSU does in their end zones. It would look really sharp.
is this true or a rumor???
I would say this info, and the party it came from, is pretty dang reliable. Although, i'd say until it is installed, don't buy the special paint. ;o)
lets just say, if you liked what the saints played on, you'll like this.
so basically its the same stuff at Indy stadium which is "astroplay" turf
article talks about Indy stadium being first to utilize this field in Louisiana

This will solve alot of problems we have concerning the relationship between athletics and the physical plant. Field maintainence is something that the building and grounds people have despised for years.Originally Posted by qng001
The field in JAS is not the greatest and this is a improvement, which at this point, I will take. The biggest thing we still need to change is the coaching staff.
